
MECHANICSVILLE—Russell McCarley Pittman Sr., 82, of Mechanicsville passed away Monday, April 16, after a courageous battle with heart problems.
He was born November 16, 1935, in Nuttsville.
Russell was preceded in death by his parents, Emma Lillian Taft and Allen Reginald Pittman; sister, Emily Walters; and brothers, Addison Reginald and Allen Doswell Pittman.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Betty Baker Pittman; sons, Russell M. “Rusty” Jr. and Daniel C. Pittman; grandchildren, Kristin N. Pittman (Michael Wallace) and Kerry M. Pittman; and great-grandson, Kolton B. Wallace.
Russell was past president of the Mechanicsville Lions Club and a life member of Richmond East Moose Lodge #1947 with 52 years of service. He received his Pilgrim Degree in 1989 and was one of the four finalists for Moose of the Year. He was a member of the 25 Club, having sponsored 202 members. He served as governor for 12 years. Russell loved his Moose family and his service on many committees, especially as bingo chairman.
A Celebration of Life, with a Pilgrim Memorial Service, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 28, at Richmond East Moose Lodge. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 29, at Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery, Lively.
