In 1775, Thomas Gaskins Jr., of Wicomico Parish commanded a Minute Line in the local militia and served throughout the Revolutionary War. In 1779, the British Navy attacked and burned the Patriot warship, the Protector, in the Great Wicomico River before setting fire to patriot homes.
During the American Revolution the Northern Neck was fully engaged. As America prepares to celebrate its 250th anniversary, 26th Street Media will present a film chronicling those events, “Northern Neck 250.”
The film was produced in association with the Northumberland County Historical Society and the Kilmarnock Museum. It will be shown at 7 p.m. June 17 and 22 at Compass….
