After completion of the eighth annual Shamrock Pickleball Tournament, it’s safe to say Kilmarnock has earned the moniker of the “Rural Capital of Pickleball,” said tournament director Mickey Kendrick. Each year the local tournament grows in popularity and on November 8 and 9 some 90 players participated.
Going into the 2017 tournament, organizers wanted to keep growing but needed additional courts to attract more players, said Kendrick. At the request of the Northern Neck Family YMCA, Indian Creek Yacht and Country Club (ICYCC) accepted an invitation to partner in the annual charity event and offered the use of the club’s racquet center increasing courts from four to eight.
“These additional facilities allowed us the opportunity to accept more players,” said Kendrick.
