Sharon L. H. Rice

WHITE STONE—Sharon Lynn Holleman Rice of White Stone, at the age of 69 went home to our Lord the evening of May 20, 2024, at Rappahannock General. She was surrounded by family and cherished friends singing her favorite hymns at the hospital bedside as she peacefully left this Earth. What a friend we have in Jesus!

Born and raised in Suffolk, the daughter of the late Thomas and Ona Sue Holleman, Sharon’s foundation was built on rural country living. Her faith in the Lord was fostered by her mother and aunts in the Sunday school rooms of Cypress Chapel Christian Church. The memories of simpler times with her brother, Kent Holleman (Lori and daughter Mallory) of Virginia Beach and sister, Sunnie Holleman of Maneto, N.C., were permanently etched into her heart.

She moved to the Northern Neck to take a job in radiology at Rappahannock General in 1977 as part of the first employees of the hospital. Sharon then spent the next 40 years serving her community at RGH and raising a family in another beautiful rural location. Kilmarnock United Methodist Church is where she established her children’s faith in the Father.

She is survived by her loving husband of 43 years, Steven Rice, her daughter Kendall (Bill) Rosalia and son Jordan (Kayla) Rice.

She is predeceased by her son, Taylor Riddick Rice.

The title of mother was her greatest happiness but the gift of being a grandmother was her absolute joy! Brandon, Bryce and Timothy are Sharon’s most treasured blessings from God.
The family would like to thank special friend, Dr. Joe Bessler, for his incredible support of our family. We also wish to thank the entire staff at RGH for surrounding her with decades of love and lasting friendships.

A celebration of life will be planned for a later date once enough sweet tea is brewed.
