Betty J.W. Smith

WARSAW—Betty June Winston Smith, 95, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 22, 2024. She was born in Platte City, Missouri on October 29, 1928.

Betty was a graduate of William Jewell College and the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. She taught in Albemarle County, Hopewell, Virginia and Richmond County Public schools as a reading specialist for 28 years. She continued to teach adults to read after she retired.

Betty was predeceased by her husband, John T. Smith; her parents, Frida and John Winston; her sister, Marie Landers; and her brother, Jack Winston.

She is survived by her sister, Dorothy Foster; her daughter, Cheryl Smith; her sons, Randy Smith (Sharon Baldacci) and Don Smith (Gloria).

She is also survived by her grandchildren, Patrick Smith, Blake Smith, Scarlett Sanborn, Olivia Smith, Winston Smith and Mason Smith; and her great-grandchildren, Sophia and Seely Sanborn.

Betty’s Memorial Service will be held at Warsaw Baptist Church at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 29. The Rev. Leslie Park will officiate the service. The family will receive friends at a light luncheon in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service.
