REEDVILLE—At 1 p.m. Saturday, April 1, Northumberland County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a home on Fleeton Road for a welfare check.
After several failed attempts to communicate with the person in the home, deputies made entry, reported Sheriff Johnny Beauchamp. Once inside the residence, the person made verbal threats to shoot the deputies if they proceeded further. The deputies retreated from the house and a Virginia State Police (VSP) tactical team was requested to respond.
Once the VSP tactical team arrived and was briefed, they attempted communicating with the person. Eventually, the person came to the front door and cooperated with law enforcement, said Sheriff Beauchamp.
Eric Englander was arrested and charged with two counts of felony assault on a law enforcement officer and one count of obstruction of justice by threats.
“I want to thank the agencies that responded to this incident, Northumberland County Sheriff’s Office, Northumberland County Emergency Services, VDP and Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources Police,” said Sheriff Beauchamp. “Together, their cooperation and professionalism ended the incident without injury.”
Fleeton Road was closed during the incident for the safety of the officers and the public, he said.
