Sheriffs’ Reports 01-12-23

Lancaster County Sheriff Patrick McCranie this week reported charges against two individuals.

Felony

Benjamin Caleb Conboy, 32, of Hayes, was charged January 5 with hit and run accident involving personal injury and/or property damage over $1,000.

Misdemeanor

A Lottsburg man, 31, was charged January 3 with assault.

Activity report

January 2: Staff responded to the 100 block of Laurel Way to check the welfare of a resident, to the 900 block of Johns Neck Road for a vehicle parked in the roadway, to the 200 block of Old Fairgrounds Way to assist Kilmarnock Police Department with the search of a vehicle involved in a verbal disagreement, to the 11000 block of River Road for stolen property, and to the Robert O. Norris Jr. Memorial Bridge for debris in the roadway causing a traffic hazard.

January 3: Staff responded to the 100 block of Campbell Road for a domestic disturbance, to Kelly Neck Road for a tree down in the roadway, to the 200 block of Benson Road for a missing person, to the 400 block of Regina Road to check the welfare of a resident.

January 4: Staff responded to the 200 block of School Street for suspicious activity, to the 10400 block of Jessie duPont Memorial Highway for larceny of real estate signs, to Rappahannock Drive for a reckless driver, to the 2900 block of Browns Store Road to assist Northumberland County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO) with a fight in progress that possibly involved firearms, and to the 17400 block of Mary Ball Road for a wanted person.

January 5: Staff responded to Shady Lane to assist emergency medical services with a person with an altered mental status, to the 100 block of Pine Trail for the report of a possible burglary, to Mary Ball and Chases roads for an abandoned utility trailer, to the 100 block of Oak Leaf Drive for stolen firearms, to the 6000 block of Mary Ball Road for suspicious activity, and to the 100 block of Whisk Drive for suspicious activity.

January 6: Staff responded to the 2700 block of Mary Ball Road for a domestic disturbance, to the 100 block of Sandlin Drive for funds obtained by false pretense, to the 100 block of Rappahannock Drive for suspicious activity, and to the 3600 block of Historyland Highway to assist Richmond County Sheriff’s Office with a fight in progress involving a large crowd and weapons.

January 7: Staff responded to the 900 block of Merry Point Road for a single-vehicle traffic crash versus a tree with minor injuries, to the Norris Bridge for debris in the roadway causing a traffic hazard, to the 600 block of Alfonso Road for gunshots during the late evening hours, to Gaines and Nuttsville roads for gunshots in the area during late evening hours, and to the 8300 block of Mary Ball Road for a disorderly person.

January 8: Staff responded to the Norris Bridge for debris in the roadway causing a traffic hazard, to North Main Street for a two-vehicle traffic crash, to the 100 block of Jenkins Drive for a verbal disagreement, and to the 100 block of Methodist Church Road for threats made to harm another over social media.

Staff also conducted 14 traffic stops, issued six summonses, assisted three motorists, recorded four deer strike accidents, handled eight calls for traffic control, investigated seven building alarms, processed a mental health order, logged three inmate transports, received 18 E911 hang up calls, and fielded four calls for animal control service.

Fire calls

Upper Lancaster Volunteer Fire Department responded to Lara Road for a carbon monoxide alarm.

White Stone VFD responded to Ocran Road for a structure fire.

Kilmarnock VFD responded to North Main Street for a traffic crash.

Northumberland County Sheriff Johnny Beauchamp this week reported charges against 20 individuals.

Felonies

Lewis Curtis Smith, 53, of Columbia, Md., was charged December 12 with two felony counts of abuse/neglect/reckless regard of life of a child. He also was charged with felony habitual offender, disregard for law-enforcement command and three counts of forgery. Additional charges include giving false information to law enforcement, driving with an open container and speeding.

David Vincent Christian, 22, of Reedville was charged December 13 with felony assault and battery of a police officer, driving under the influence of alcohol, first offense, and reckless driving. Additional charges were having a concealed weapon, shooting in a public place, failing to stop at a stop sign and refusal of the breath test.

Jesse Allen King, 55, of Warsaw was charged December 16 with threatening to bomb/burn/destroy a building or other structure. He also was charged with threatening in writing to kill or do bodily damage.

Steven Travis Hensley, 36, of Callao was charged December 23 on a direct indictment issued by the Northumberland County Multi-jurisdictional Grand Jury for four counts of sexual assault on a child under the age of 13 and two counts of attempted sexual assault on a child under the age of 13.

Kai Robert Renton, 32, of Heathsville was charged December 19 with failing to perform construction after he was given an advance. He also was charged with operating without a contractor’s license. He was served by the Henrico County Police Department.

John Harrison Coates, 45, of Heathsville was charged December 24 with assault and battery, third plus offense. He also was served a capias/attachment of the body issued by the Northumberland County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court for violating pre-trial services by failing to appear for random screenings.

Misdemeanors

A Reedville man, 27, was charged December 8 with a capias/attachment of the body issued by the Northumberland County General District Court for failing to appear, after being served with a subpoena.

A Heathsville man, 71, was charged December 12 with a capias/attachment of the body issued by the Northumberland County General District Court for failing to appear, after signing a form to be there for trial.

A Kilmarnock man, 32, was charged December 16 on a capias/attachment of the body issued by the Northumberland County Juvenile and Domestic Court for pre-trial services violation by testing positive for Fentanyl and failing to appear for random drug testing. He was served by the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

A Callao woman, 36, was charged December 18 with assault and battery.

A South Chesterfield man, 39, was charged December 18 with failing to appear in Northumberland County General District Court for arraignment on the original charge of driving revoked. He was served by the City of Richmond Police Department.

A Callao man, 34, was charged December 29 with three misdemeanor counts of assault and battery of a family member. These were Northumberland County warrants. Also served was an attempt to violate a protective order issued by Middlesex County. An assault and battery warrant also served on the subject by Lancaster County.

A Lottsburg woman, 38, was charged December 29 with failing to appear in the Northumberland County General District Court on an original charge of driving suspended, first offense. This was a Northumberland County warrant served by the Virginia State Police.

A Callao woman, 31, was charged December 30 with three counts of animal cruelty/deprivation.

A Callao man, 31, was charged December 30 with animal cruelty/deprivation.

A Chesterfield woman, 20, was charged December 30 with a capias/attachment of the body issued by Culpeper General District Court, Criminal Division for failing to appear. She was served by the NCSO.

A Hague man, 22, was charged December 30 with assault and battery of a family member.

A Lottsburg woman, 24, was charged January 1 with driving under the influence of alcohol, first offense, and speeding.

A Reedville man, 27, was charged with three counts of assault and battery on family members.

A White Stone man, 35, was charged January 6 with assault and battery of a family member and damaging property. This was a Northumberland County warrant served by the Essex County Sheriff’s Office.
