Sheriff’s Reports 03-30-23

Lancaster County Sheriff Patrick McCranie this week reported misdemeanor charges against two individuals.

A Weems man, 69, was charged March 25 for without authority, trespassing after having been forbidden to do so by an authorized individual.

An Irvington man, 19, was charged March 25 with driving under the influence of alcohol; while being a person less than age 25, interdicted, or intoxicated consume, purchase or possess an alcoholic beverage; possess controlled paraphernalia; and unlawfully as a person age 18 or older and younger than 21, consume or possess, or attempt to consume or possess marijuana or marijuana products.

March 20: Staff responded to the 1000 block of Windmill Point Road for a single-vehicle traffic crash, to the 8800 block of Mary Ball Road for an abandoned vehicle, to the 100 block of Fox Hill Drive to assist Kilmarnock Police Department (KPD) with a person with an altered mental status, to the 1900 block of River Road for a property dispute, to the 3200 block of White Chapel Road for  a verbal dispute and trespassing, and to the 300 block of Twin Branch Road for a domestic disturbance involving alcohol.

March 21: Staff responded to Merry Point Road for a property dispute, to the 300 block of North Main Street to assist KPD with a two-vehicle traffic crash and altercation between parties, to the 100 block of Gaskins Road for a verbal disagreement between renter and landlord, to the 4900 block of Mary Ball Road to assist Hanover County Sheriff’s Office with an investigation, and to the 100 block of Jones Drive to check the welfare of a resident.

March 22: Staff responded to the 200 block of North Main Street to assist Virginia State Police with a traffic stop, to the 100 block of Buttercup Lane for a domestic assault, to the 100 block of Dr Bens Court for suspicious activity, Mary Ball Road between Lancaster and Kilmarnock for a reckless driver, to the Robert O. Norris Jr. Memorial Bridge for debris in the roadway causing a traffic hazard, to the 100 block of Havenwood Lane for juveniles on four-wheelers destroying property, to the 100 block of Mohans Run for a reckless driver, to Landing Drive for a domestic disturbance, to the 100 block of Doggett Lane for a person with an altered mental status, to the 100 block of Dodson Drive for suspicious activity, and to the 100 block of Rose Drive for a domestic disturbance involving alcohol.

March 23: Staff responded to the 100 block of Doggett Drive for suspicious activity, to the 6000 block of Mary Ball Road for an embezzlement and grand larceny, to the 800 block of Rappahannock Drive for a hit-and-run crash that occurred on the Norris Bridge, to Devils Bottom and Mary Ball roads for a two-vehicle traffic crash with serious injuries, to the 800 block of Rappahannock Drive for a minor two-vehicle traffic crash, to the 400 block of Greentown Road for trespassers, to the 100 block of Clark Lane to assist KPD with a suicidal person, to the 100 block of Rappahannock Drive for an abandoned vehicle, and to the 3600 block of Irvington Road for the report of shooting in the late evening hours.

March 24: Staff responded to a walk-in report of threats made to harm another that occurred at the 100 block of Turner Lane, to the 1300 block of Weems Road for suspicious activity, to the 500 block of Rappahannock Drive for a single-vehicle traffic crash versus a pedestrian crossing sign, to the Norris Bridge for a two-vehicle traffic crash with injuries, to the 400 block of King Carter Drive for an assault, to a walk-in report of trespassing that occurred at the 100 block of Smith Lane, to Courthouse and White Chapel roads for a single-vehicle traffic crash, to James B. Jones Memorial Highway and Black Stump Road for suspicious activity, and to the 200 block of Methodist Church Road for a wanted person.

March 25: Staff responded to the 10400 block of Mary Ball Road for a two-vehicle traffic crash, to the 100 block of Woodlawn Road for a property line dispute, to the 500 block of Lancaster Creek Drive for a burglary, and to the 300 block of North Main Street to assist KPD with a fight in progress.

March 26: Staff responded to the 100 block of Doggett Lane for suspicious activity, to the Norris Bridge for debris in the roadway causing a traffic hazard, Mary Ball and Campbell roads for an abandoned vehicle, to the 500 block of Dillin Drive for construction fraud, and to a walk-in report of harassment that occurred in the 100 block of Ice House Drive.

Staff also conducted 17 traffic stops, issued 17 summonses, assisted seven motorists, recorded a deer strike accident, handled six calls for traffic control, investigated four building alarms, processed a mental health order, transported two inmates, received 21 E911 hang up calls, and fielded five calls for animal control service.

Fire calls

Kilmarnock Volunteer Fire Department responded to a brush fire on Boys Camp Road, separate traffic crashes at Mary Ball and Devils Bottom roads and Mary Ball Road, the smell of propane on North Main Street, and with Upper Lancaster VFD to a fire/smoke alarm on Ottoman Ferry Road, an electrical/structure fire on Estates Road and a domestic animal in a well on Leland Road.

Upper Lancaster VFD also responded to a traffic crash at Courthouse and White Chapel roads and a mutual aid call for Richmond County on Pinewood Road.

White Stone VFD responded to a traffic crash on Norris Bridge.
