Sheriffs’ Reports 05-11-23

Lancaster County Sheriff Patrick McCranie this week reported charges against three individuals.

Felonies

Curneshia Channin Porter, 21, of Heathsville was charged May 2 with obtaining by false pretense goods valued at $1,000 or more with the intent to defraud; and with the intentionally defrauding, selling, secreting, destroying or disposing of goods valued at $1,000 or more and subject to a written lease, or fraudulently removing such property from Virginia without the written consent of the lessor, or failing to return such property to the lessor within 30 days after expiration of the lease or rental period.

Marcus Antonio Owens, 38, of Lancaster was charged May 5 with selling/providing for resale a Schedule I/II narcotic.

Misdemeanor

A Lancaster man, 55, was charged May 4 with on more than one occasion placing a person in reasonable fear of death, criminal sexual assault, or bodily injury to that person or to that person’s family or household member; and intentionally destroying, defacing, or damaging property that was valued less than $1,000.

Activity Report

May 1: Staff responded to Chesapeake and Rappahannock drives for a two-vehicle traffic crash, to the 10100 block of Courthouse Road to check the welfare of residents, to Ice House and Sandlin drives for low hanging utility lines, to Mary Ball and Regina roads for a two-vehicle traffic crash with injuries, and to the 900 block of Chesapeake Trail for a domestic assault.

May 2: Staff responded to the 100 block of Third Avenue to assist Kilmarnock Police Department (KPD) with a sudden death, to the 11000 block of River Road for a burglary and larceny of an AR15 semi-auto rifle, to the 100 block of Harris Road to assist Virginia State Police with a wanted person, to the 400 block of Twin Branch Road for a wanted person, to the 400 block of Old Orchard Drive for a wanted person, to the 3900 block of Lara Road for a single-vehicle traffic crash, to the 100 block of John Creek Road for trespassing, and to the 1300 block of Irvington Road for two disorderly juveniles.

May 3: Staff responded to Western Branch and River roads for a two-vehicle traffic crash, to the 1400 block of Windmill Point Road for suspicious activity, to the 800 block of Rappahannock Drive for a report of defrauding a restaurant owner, and to the 500 block of Lancaster Creek Drive for vandalism.

May 4: Staff responded to Mary Ball Road near White Stone for a person brandishing a firearm from a vehicle, to the 800 block of Coxs Farm Road to check the welfare of a resident, to a walk-in report of trespassing, to the 100 block of Joyful Way for damage to a building from a gunshot, and to a walk-in report of vandalism and threats to harm another that occurred at the 2300 block of River Road.

May 5: Staff responded to the 3100 block of White Chapel Road to assist Richmond County Sheriff’s Office with a hit and run traffic crash, to the 1400 block of Windmill Point Road for vandalism of a structure, to the 100 block of Doggett Lane for suspicious activity, to a walk-in report of an assault, and to the 600 block of Chesapeake Drive for loitering.

May 6: Staff responded to the 1800 block of Windmill Point Road for a domestic assault, to the 12500 block of Mary Ball Road for construction material in the roadway causing a traffic hazard, to the 100 block of Hazard Lane for suspicious activity, and to a walk-in report of threats made to harm another.

May 7: Staff responded to the 1900 block of Old Salem Road for vandalism of a mailbox, to the 600 block of Middle Gate Lane for speeding, to the 400 block of White Hall Road for a controlled burn too close to the neighboring residence, and to the 600 block of Rappahannock Drive for suspicious activity.

Staff also conducted 12 traffic stops, issued 15 summonses, assisted seven motorists, recorded four deer strike accidents, handled 10 calls for traffic control, investigated five building alarms, logged three inmate transports, received 50 E911 hang up calls, and fielded two requests for animal control service.

Fire calls

White Stone Volunteer Fire Department responded to a traffic crash at Chesapeake and Rappahannock drives.

Kilmarnock VFD responded to separate fire/smoke alarms on Walden Drive and Mercers Way, as well as two separate fire/smoke alarms on Harris Road and a carbon monoxide alarm on Tilden Lane.

Upper Lancaster VFD assisted emergency medical services on Dillin Drive and responded to a traffic crash on Lara Road.

Northumberland County Sheriff Johnny Beauchamp this week reported charges against five individuals.

Felonies

Edward Crowther Barnes II (no age given) of Reedville was charged May 1 with a capias/attachment of the body issued by the Northumberland County General District Court for failing to appear, after signing to appear for a preliminary hearing.

William Edward Headley, 24, of Gloucester was charged May 2 on a direct indictment issued by the Northumberland County Circuit Court for grand larceny.

Kai Robert Renton, 33, of Heathsville was charged May 2 with a capias/attachment of the body issued by the Essex County General District Court for failing to appear. He was served by the Northumberland County Sheriffs Office.

Misdemeanors

A Callao woman, 31, was charged May 2 with assault and battery.

A Lancaster woman, 40, was charged May 4 with assault and battery. This was a Northumberland County warrant, served by the Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office.
