Sheriffs’ Reports 07-31-25

Lancaster County Sheriff Patrick McCranie this week reported charges against five individuals.

Felonies

Kevin Mauricio Cronise Painter, 21, of Roanoke was charged July 24 with assault and battery on a law enforcement officer; and appearing in public in an intoxicated condition (misdemeanor).

Willow Camille Crockett, 20, of Lancaster was charged July 24 with attempting to maliciously stab, cut or wound with the intent to maim, disfigure or disable; attempting to poison; and assault and battery (misdemeanor).

Misdemeanors

A Kilmarnock woman, 25, was charged July 21 with assault and battery of a family or household member.

A Heathsville man, 45, was charged July 23 with revocation or suspension of sentence and probation; and failure to appear in court on April 4.

A Bluffton, S.C. woman, 41, was charged July 24 with driving a motor vehicle while intoxicated; and failure to drive in right lane of traffic.

Activity report

July 21: Staff responded to the 300 block of West Bay Drive for suspicious activity, to the 300 block of Apple Grove Boulevard for a scam, to the 7000 block of River Road for a disabled vehicle, and to the 70 block of Ashley Cove Lane for a verbal dispute.

July 22: Staff responded to the 300 block of Nuttsville Road for a breaking and entering, to Black Stump and Lumberlost roads for a traffic hazard, and to the 500 block of Devils Bottom Road for a verbal dispute.

July 23: Staff responded to the 200 block of North Main Street for a suspicious person and to the 40 block of Park Creek Lane for a noise complaint.

July 24: Staff responded to the 80 block of Newtown Road for a downed tree, to the 5000 block of Mary Ball Road for a single-vehicle traffic crash, to the 60 block of Hazel Lane for a fight in progress, to the 400 block of Levelgreen Road for a juvenile complaint, to Old Salem Road and Lancaster Drive for a single-vehicle traffic crash, and to the 100 block of Doggett Lane for suspicious activity.

July 25: Staff responded to the 90 block of Moran Creek Road for gunshots in the late evening hours, and to the 400 block of James Wharf Road for trespassing.

July 26: Staff responded to the 100 block of Carter Lane for trespassing.

July 27: Staff responded to the 90 block of Starfish Lane for trespassing, to the 90 block of Punches Cove Road for legal advice, to the 8000 block of Mary Ball Road for a downed tree, and to the 400 block of Regina Road for an adult welfare check.

Staff also conducted 16 traffic stops, issued 14 summonses, assisted a motorist, recorded four deer strike accidents, handled a request for traffic control, investigated five building alarms, logged an inmate transport, received seven E911 hang up calls, and fielded a call for animal control service.

Fire calls

White Stone Volunteer Fire Department responded to a traffic crash on Old Salem Road, a fire alarm at 970 Clark Point Drive, and an electrical/smoke smell at 391 Rappahannock Drive.

Northumberland County Sheriff Johnny Beauchamp this week reported charges against 13 individuals.

Felonies

Maurice Channin Veney, 34, of Heathsville was charged July 10 on a capias/attachment of the body issued by the Northumberland Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court for failure to provide support. Veney also was charged on an Essex County capias for two counts of violating his probation on felony charges. Veney also was charged with a PB-15, for a probation violation with the original offense of robbery.

Thomas Ray Garrett II, 43, was charged July 15 with felony unauthorized use of a vehicle. This was a Northumberland County warrant, served by the Colonial Heights Police Department.

Donte Steffan Sutton, 28, of Warsaw was charged July 15 on a capias to show cause issued by the Northumberland County Circuit Court for a probation violation.

Maurice Channin Veney, 34, of Spotsylvania was charged July 15 with felony possession of a firearm, after being a convicted felon, possession of ammunition being a convicted felon and receiving a stolen firearm, knowing it was stolen. He also was charged with a misdemeanor of carrying a concealed weapon.

Michael Scott Kappell, 58, of Heathsville was charged July 17 with one felony count of practicing a profession or occupation without a license. He also was charged with four felony counts of failing to perform construction when receiving an advance and a misdemeanor charge for failing to perform construction when receiving an advance under $1000.

James Thomas Raynor, 45, of Heathsville was charged July 23 on a capias to show cause issued by the Northumberland County Circuit Court to be found guilty and sentenced in accordance with a plea agreement.

Misdemeanors

A Lottsburg man, 27, was charged July 8 with assault and battery of a family member, damaging property and driving on a revoked drivers license.

A Callao woman, 43, was charged July 8 on a capias/attachment of the body issued by the Northumberland County General District Court for failing to pay restitution.

A Heathsville man, 73, was charged July 16 on two summonses for abusive language.

A Lancaster woman, 19, was charged July 21 with criminal trespassing and abusive language to another.

A Burgess man, 45, was charged July 22 with harassment by computer.

A Callao man, 54, was charged July 22 on a capias/attachment of the body issued by the Northumberland County General District Court for violating the conditions of his probation on original charges of DUI and non-compliant with VASAP. He was served by the Tappahannock Police Department.

A Burgess man, 24, was charged July 22 with driving under the influence of alcohol, first offense.

Reminder, those charged with alleged crimes are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
