Scams and frauds
The Lancaster/Northumberland TRIAD will host an event from 10 a.m.-noon Thursday, November 14, at the Lancaster Community Library, 16 Town Centre Drive, Kilmarnock.
Speakers will include representatives from the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office, Virginia Attorney General’s Office and Chesapeake Bank. The topic will be scams and frauds. RSVP can be sent to triadevents@gmail.com.
Lancaster County Sheriff Patrick McCranie this week reported charges against five individuals.
Felonies
Christopher Edward Self, 48, of Warsaw was charged October 28 with obtaining money or signature by false pretense.
Derick Lee Wilson, 43, of Lancaster was charged October 30 with two counts of obtaining money or signature by false pretense and unlawful acts, prosecution proceedings in equity, civil penalty.
Misdemeanors
A Kilmarnock man, 56, was charged October 30 with failure to appear in court for arraignment on October 16.
A Newport News man, 21, was charged October 31 with assault and battery of family or household member.
A Weems woman, 45, was charged October 31 with driving a motor vehicle on a highway while driver’s license is suspended or revoked.
Activity report
October 28: Staff responded to Methodist Church Road and Whisk Drive for a suspicious person, to Old Salem and Irvington roads for a two-vehicle traffic crash, to the 3000 block of Black Stump Road for an adult welfare check, and to Jessie duPont Memorial Highway and Goodluck Road for a two-vehicle traffic crash.
October 29: Staff responded to the 2000 block of White Chapel Road for a suspicious person, to the Robert O. Norris Jr. Memorial Bridge for debris in the highway, to the 18000 block of Mary Ball Road for a reckless driver, to the 900 block of Rappahannock Drive for suspicious activity, and to the 600 block of North Main Street for a fight in progress.
October 30: Staff responded to the 800 block of Rappahannock Drive for a reckless driver, to the 1500 block of Avis Trail for illegal dumping, to the 200 block of Old Mill Cove Road for gunshots in the late evening hours, to the 200 block of South Main Street for a domestic assault, and to the 20 block of Little Branch Road for verbal threats.
October 31: Staff responded to the 8000 block of Mary Ball Road for a juvenile complaint, to the 600 block of Johns Neck Road for a domestic disturbance, to the 1400 block of Lara Road for a single-vehicle traffic crash, and to the 50 block of Rappahannock Drive for a disabled vehicle.
November 1: Staff responded to Beanes Road for a disabled vehicle, to the 70 block of Fleeton Point Road to assist the Northumberland County Sheriff’s Office with an assault, to the 8000 block of Mary Ball Road for threats, to the 100 block of Castle Lane for a scam, and to the 8000 block of Mary Ball Road for a disorderly person.
November 2: Staff responded to the 8000 block of Mary Ball Road for threats, to the 1300 block of Beanes Road for a suspicious person, and to the 100 block of Kathy Drive for the report of a verbal dispute.
November 3: Staff responded to the 400 block of Christ Church Road for trespassing, and to the 200 block of Close Quarters Drive for larceny of a political sign.
Staff also conducted 10 traffic stops, issued 13 summonses, assisted two motorists, recorded two deer strike accidents, handled three requests for traffic control, investigated four building alarms, processed three mental health orders, logged two inmate transports, received three E911 hang up calls, and fielded four calls for animal control service.
Fire calls
White Stone Volunteer Fire Department responded to a traffic crash at Old Salem and Irvington roads.
Kilmarnock VFD responded to a traffic crash at Jessie duPont Memorial Highway and Goodluck Road, a structure fire at 448 Wicomico View Lane, and to a farm machinery fire on Morattico Church Road.
Northumberland County Sheriff Johnny Beauchamp this week reported charges against 11 individuals.
Felonies
Kyle Todd Jones, 35, of Newport News was charged October 29 with being in possession of a firearm after being declared a convicted violent offender. He also was charged with possession of a Schedule III drug.
Quentin Eliot Scott Jr., 35, of Tappahannock was charged October 29 on a capias to show cause issued by the Northumberland County Circuit Court for a probation violation on an original charge of possession of a Schedule I/II drug.
Mark Anthony Monk Jr., 36, of Burgess was charged October 29 with possession of a firearm after being convicted as a non-violent felon. He also was charged with two counts of assault and battery.
Joshua Brandon Saddler, 42, of Heathsville was charged October 30 with credit card larceny and credit card fraud. He was served by the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office. He also was charged by Northumberland County for being intoxicated in public.
Reginald Marvella Smith, 42, of Lancaster was charged October 30 on a capias to show cause issued by the Northumberland County Circuit Court for three counts of violating his probation by obtaining recent charges. He was served by the Virginia State Police.
Monterra Terrell Cottrell, 42, of Heathsville was charged November 1 with breaking and entering with intent of assault. He also was charged with grand larceny of a firearm and possession of a firearm by a violent convicted felon. Cottrell was served with a PB-15 for violating his probation/parole on original charges of burglary, robbery, conspiracy burglary and conspiring robbery. He also was charged with fleeing from law enforcement, assault and battery of a family member and petit larceny.
Sydney Dorin, 32, of Irvington was charged November 1 on a direct indictment issued by the Northumberland County Circuit Court on original charges of embezzlement.
Misdemeanors
A Lottsburg woman, 45, was charged October 21 on a capias/attachment of the body for failing to report for alcohol/drug screening.
A Heathsville man, 50, was charged October 22 with driving suspended/revoked and disregarding a law enforcement command to stop, while continuing to drive.
A Heathsville man, 50, was charged October 22 with driving suspended/revoked.
A Pennsylvania woman, 40, was charged October 30 with assault and battery.
