FAIRPORT—Shirley Ashburn, 86, of Fairport passed away peacefully on April 30, 2025. She was the widow of Granville M. Ashburn and a member of Fairport Baptist Church.
Along with her husband, Shirley was preceded in death by her daughters, Terry Eastwood and Lisa Spring; her sister, Rachel Robinson; and a brother, Raymond Haynie.
She is survived by her daughters, Catherine Newsome of Reedville and Gail Newsome (Ronnie) of Lottsburg; son-in-law, James Spring of Callao; her brother, Mac Haynie of Creole, La.; grandchildren, Jesse Davis (Stephanie), Teresa Embrey (Gareth), Chuck Hayden (Jamie), Michael Hayden, Amanda Ritchie, Roberta Heflin, Wesley Newsome (Sabrina), Ashley Jenkins (Charlie) and Mindy Kelley; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Shirley was a longtime bus driver with the Northumberland County and Lancaster County school systems. She also spent time as a caretaker for the elderly and was a much-loved babysitter for many children. She was a loving mother and grandmother, and a friend to all who knew her.
A visitation was held from 3-5 p.m., Sunday, May 4, at Currie Funeral Home in Kilmarnock. Services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, May 5, at Fairport Baptist Church in Reedville. Interment followed at Roseland Cemetery in Reedville.
