
LOTTSBURG—Shirley Keyser Davis, 84, of Lottsburg, formerly of Fleeton, passed away Tuesday, October 8, 2024. She was the widow of Capt. Kenneth N. Davis.
Shirley was born on August 27, 1940, to the late William Raynard Keyser Sr. and Bertha Sisson Keyser of Mila. She was a graduate of Northumberland County High School Class of 1958, where she excelled in both basketball and softball. She and Kenny were married the fall after graduation, and shared 47 years together until his passing in 2005.
Along with her husband and parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her brother, Dallas Keyser; and sisters, Juanita Ashburn and Pauline Norris.
She is survived by her daughters, Vickie Walker (B.J.), Bonnie Swann (Warren “Shiney”) and Sharon Gutermuth; grandchildren, Brittany Bumgarner (Tyler), Brooke Spivey (Heath), Auriel Diggs (Wesley), Kiley Wilburn (Robert), Blaine Swann (Kristen), Taylor Gutermuth and Madison Gutermuth; great-grandchildren, Hadley and Garrett Bumgarner, Beckett and Piper Spivey, Insley, Walker, Ethan and Jared Diggs, and Liam Swann. Shirley is also survived by her brothers, W. R. Keyser, Warren Keyser; as well as sisters, Bertha Kelly, Iris Garrison and Jeanette Walker.
Shirley was always active. She loved playing tennis and was quite the opponent to any with whom she played. She enjoyed playing bridge, quilting and cross-stitch, and she was an amazing cook. Shirley absolutely loved her family. She loved attending school events and sport activities for her grandchildren. She especially loved having “tea parties” with her great-grandchilden. She will be greatly missed.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Commonwealth Senior Living in Farnham for their loving care.
A graveside service will be held at noon on Saturday, October 19, at Roseland Cemetery in Reedville. The family will receive friends at a reception following the service at Fairfields Volunteer Fire Department, 119 Main Street, Reedville.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Reedville Fishermen’s Museum, P.O. Box 306, Reedville, VA 22539.
