Christine C. Scott

Christine C. Scott

KILMARNOCK—Christine Chase Scott passed away peacefully on October 5, 2024, surrounded by music and her two daughters’ love. To those who knew her, she was truly one of a kind—outspoken, eccentric, a naturalist, Southern, open-minded, strong, intelligent, with a vocabulary that could rival both a dictionary and a sailor.

She was uniquely Christine. The lady definitely enjoyed an audience and storytelling, cherished nature and wildlife, New Mexico and Georgia O’Keefe, sewing, crafting, crossword puzzles and arranging flowers. She adored books, art, films and music, especially jazz and American folk.

Born on February 18, 1937, Christine was the youngest of four children to Lawton V. Chase and Elvie N. Kirby Chase. Her childhood in LaGrange, Georgia, played like a chapter out of Tom Sawyer. Along with her siblings, she would hop trains to neighboring towns, challenge each other to hold on to a train trestle as locomotives roared overhead, race homemade rowboats on their pond and revel in family gatherings with countless cousins. Christine was always surrounded by a menagerie of animals, including dogs, cats, a squirrel, raccoon, and even a pet king snake.

Christine’s career as a legal administrative assistant spanned over 35 years in Washington, D.C., the Northern Neck and Atlanta, Georgia. She worked in a variety of legal fields, including patent, criminal and international corporate acquisitions. A loving mother who encouraged independence, critical thinking and creativity. Christine was a Girl Scout leader, known for creating unforgettable camping trips and community service projects. Many of her daughters’ friends considered her the “fun mom.”

She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Mary Helen Lindsey, Larry Chase and Jerry Chase.

Christine is survived by her daughters, Mary Helen Scott-Lewis (Wallace Lewis) and Pamela Scott Farr; five grandsons, Joshua Lewis (Blair Eisenhart), Nathan Lewis, Tyler Lewis, Caleb Lewis and Dorian Scott Farr; one great-granddaughter, Charlotte; Bobbey Smith; and many nieces and nephews.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to Joane Waller and the staff at The Lancashire for their care and love toward Christine and her family. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Animal Welfare League of the Northern Neck at PO Box 975, White Stone, VA 22578 or online at AWLNNK.org.

A private memorial will be held by the family in place of a public service.
