‘Shuck-It Bucket’ event October 10 to replace traditional oyster roast

Chesapeake Academy’s 19th annual Community Oyster Roast has been re-imagined and patrons can take the Oyster Roast home in a Shuck-It Bucket.

While everyone will miss the annual gathering of friends and family, Chesapeake Academy is excited to send them on their way with a steamer pot filled with shelled and raw oysters, shrimp, sausage, corn, potatoes, and a spice kit ready to put on the grill, stove, or fire, reported development associate Catherine Emry.

This event will be held on October 10 and participants can pick up their Shuck-It Bucket from 4-6 p.m. at Chesapeake Academy, 107 Steamboat Road, Irvington. The $60 bucket is a party for two, said Emry. A limited number of special order tickets are available on October 9, by calling 438-5575.

‘This year, the additional financial demands of the COVID-19 pandemic are significant,” said Emry. “The safety of our students and staff requires hiring additional staff members as well as investments in new health, hygiene and sanitation equipment.

“We also need to ensure that teachers have the technology, resources, and professional development they need to lead through this ‘new normal’ of school. With economic uncertainty, Chesapeake Academy families need more financial assistance to keep their children in school,” she said.

Sponsorships are available and each level has benefits and special opportunities. To become a sponsor, contact Emry at Chesapeake Academy at 438-5575, or [email protected]. Shuck-It Bucket tickets can be purchased by calling the school, or visiting www.chesapeakeacademy.org.
