The National Career Development Association (NCDA) recently sponsored the 51st annual Poetry and Poster Contest, The Joy of Working: Positive Approaches to Work, Career & Life.
This contest gave students the opportunity to express their ideas regarding career exploration through poetry and art, said Lancaster Middle School guidance counselor Myra Palin, who sponsored the contest.
LMS students were invited to participate and submissions were judged by NCDA criteria, said Palin. Alexis Forrester and Harriet Crowther were the LMS judges.
Hailey Smith placed third in the middle poetry level in the NCDA state level competition. She will receive a winner’s certificate from Virginia Career View along with a gift card from the Virginia Career Development Association.
Smith was in Judith Charlton’s language arts class; Charlton commented that Hailey is very conscientious, displays excellent work ethics, loves to write and expresses herself well, added Palin.
