HEATHSVILLE—Northumberland residents will get an opportunity next week to voice their opinions on proposed amendments to the zoning ordinance addressing solar farms and smaller renewable energy systems.
On Thursday, May 17, the Northumberland planning commission will hold a related public hearing at 7 p.m. in the Northumberland County Courts Building, 220 Judicial Place, Heathsville.
The proposed amendments would define, detail the application process and regulate solar energy systems for residential and commercial uses.
According to a summary by county planner Stuart McKenzie, the amendment would allow systems for private, residential use in all zoning districts. Medium solar energy projects on five acres or less and large facility systems on over five acres of land would be allowed as a conditional use in all zoning districts…
