The Steamboat Era Museum will celebrate National Maritime Day on Saturday, May 22. This little-known national observance commemorates the first steamboat to cross the Atlantic, the Savanah.
At 1 p.m., all ships are urged to sound a Master’s Salute simultaneously. The salute consists of three long blasts (:05 each) followed by two short blasts (:02 each), said executive director Steve Humphrey.
