On Tuesday, May 25, the Northern Neck Chapter of the Virginia Native Plant Society (NNNPS) will sponsor its annual spring butterfly count for Northumberland and Lancaster counties.
“Last year, during COVID-19, we found over 40 different species of butterflies and observed over 1,100 individual butterflies,” said organizer Jeff Wright. “We hope to top those numbers in 2021. As was done 2020, we will be following a COVID-19 protocol whereby individuals will be surveying areas on their own but coordinating with a sector leader.”
