St. Stephen’s to host jazz compline Sept. 17

St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 6807 Northumberland Highway, Heathsville, will offer jazz compline—a contemplative musical experience—at 7 p.m. Saturday, September 17.

Jazz standards will be played by the local quintet At Water’s Edge, featuring music of Duke Ellington, John Coltrane and George and Ira Gershwin. 

The ancient service of compline, or night prayer, combines music with prayers and readings. “While not traditionally done with jazz, the music we’ve chosen will make for a truly beautiful service….
