
Sunday, May 26, turned out to be the perfect day for the Stripers Swim Team members to challenge themselves in their annual Rappahannock River Swim.
The first team crossing was in 2015 so this year marked the 10th anniversary and conditions couldn’t have been better, reported Charlotte Hollings. The weather had finally warmed up bringing the water temperature up with it, the wind had died, the sun was out and the little current that there was grew slack as the swimmers progressed.
Most everyone on the team participated, whether as a kayaker helping to ensure the safety of the swimmers, as a single-crossing swimmer or as a double-crosser, said Hollings.
For several Stripers—Sarah Dunstan, Wayne Lannon, Mike Miller, Patty Miller, Ed Pierce and Alison Sowers, it was their first crossing. Andy Brown, John O’Shaughnessy and Hollings swam over and back this year, a distance of just over 4 miles, as they prepare for the 4.4 mile Chesapeake Bay Swim on….
