Student-athletes joined in the fun Friday, September 13, when 19 teams competed in the fourth annual Red Devils Athletic Boosters Club Golf Tournament at Golden Eagle Golf Course in Weems.

With a low score of 56, the team Rob Pittman, Claire Beitel, Justin Burke and Davy Nichols was the overall winner.

Student-athletes from several Lancaster teams participated in the tournament, not as players but as assistants. On one hole, golfers could either pay to advance their balls for a first tee shot by either hitting it with a baseball bat or tennis racquet, or they could have one of the two baseball players manning the hole do it. Here, Josh
Woolard takes a swing.

The team of Allen Garland, Greg Jones, Rudd Wigg and Jason Lawrence shot a 61 to win the second flight and Chris Parker, Drew Ransone, S.W. Dawson and Richie Allen shot a 67 to win the third flight.

To add to the fun and boost donations in the fundraiser, there was some out-of-the-ordinary hole play. On par 3 hole #8, Lancaster High School golf team members Isaac Hernandez and Tyler Brent could hit the tee shot for players or the players could challenge them for a closest-to-the-pin shot.

On another hole, tourney golfers could pay to hit the golf ball either with a baseball bat or tennis racquet to move their ball ahead. Wherever, it landed that’s where they took their first tee shot. If the golfers didn’t trust their “athletic” skills, they could have one of two assisting LHS baseball players there take the swing for them.

And on another hole, golfers could pay to take a shot into a basketball goal. With each goal made, they could move their ball ahead.

“We wanted to make it fun and we tried to represent at least three [school] sports,” said Pittman, who coaches the LHS golf team.

On one of the holes, players could either pay one of two Lancaster golf team members, Isaac Hernandez or Tyler Brent, to take their first shot or challenge them. From left are, Hernandez, Top Allaun, Ed Pittman, Brent, Robert Fleet and Cameron Forrester.
