Superintendent reviews building project and requests regarding school finances

CLARAVILLE—Superintendent Dr. Holly Wargo on Monday, July 10, reported to the Northumberland school board that the new ROTC/STEM/Athletic building will reach 95% completion by the end of the month.

According to Dr. Wargo, project construction leaders with Connemara Construction said final pieces of the project include heating, ventilation and air conditioning installation and other finishing touches.

The multi-use project will serve as a field house for various athletic, ROTC and STEM needs.

Dr. Wargo indicated a related open house event for the public will be scheduled as the construction wraps up.

Dr. Wargo also shared with the board a letter that was sent to the board of supervisors regarding appropriations for fiscal year 2023-24 Budget totaling $21,653,715 and several motions unanimously approved by the board during a June 26 special called meeting.

The motions include a 3.75% plus 1.25% step increase for all employees, including bus drivers, mechanics and school nutrition employees. According to the letter, supervisors had previously designated the appropriation of a 5% increase only….
