Team Local Heroes places first in 17th annual Dream Fields Spanish Mackerel Tournament

The 17th annual Dream Fields Spanish Mackerel Tournament on July 26 included 80 registered boats and was more of a “locals tournament than ever before,” according to director Amy Forrester.

Local anglers dominated the leader board with the top three boats locally built and either owned or chartered by anglers from Lancaster and Northumberland counties.

The tournament was a week earlier than in past years “and the mackerel bite has only been in for a few weeks,” said Forrester. “The fish were smaller than last year so it made the competition a little more interesting this year.”

Boats weighed in their four largest fish for a combined total.

At the top of the leader board was team Local Heroes, a group of 15 including first responders and spouses, fishing with Midnight Sun Charters on a 48-foot Jennings. The winning aggregate weight was 8.18 pounds.

In second place with a total weight of 7.75 pounds….
