BURGESS—Thomas Bradford Murphey, beloved husband of 27 years and best friend of Carol Clemo Murphey, who predeceased him in 2010, went to be reunited with her on December 30, 2021.
He was also predeceased by his parents, William and Mildred Murphey, and his sisters, Billye Terry, Ruth Ann Brackett and Luana Peterson.
Tom is survived by his loving family; daughter, Dawn Brown (Butch); son, Kevin Murphey (Misti); daughter, Anne Marsh; son, Bruce Cormack (Michele); sister, Bonny Seegmueller (Bob); and sisters-in-law, Ann Clemo, Susan Frisk (Randy) and Julie Gray (Bob). One of his greatest blessings in life are his loving grandchildren, Brad Brown, Lilly Murphey, Savannah Brown, Kate and Ian Marsh, and Aidan, Emma and Kalin Cormack; and great-grandson, Landon Brown. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, other loving family members and a host of dear friends.
Tom was born on September 19, 1943, in Montclair, New Jersey, spent his youth in Fayetteville, Arkansas, and subsequently resided for most of his life in Virginia. He was a proud veteran who served as a member of the U.S. Navy. In 1978, he received his bachelor’s in engineering from George Mason University.
After a legacy of work in his field at Dwyer Service Corporation and the Calvert-Jones Company, in 1985, he founded Building Automation Services. When he retired and sold the business in 2002, he was able to devote his time to consulting for the HVAC industry.
He also taught and mentored students and apprentices which was truly his passion and calling. He made a difference in so many lives by imparting his wisdom, experience and counsel.
An avid outdoorsman, Tom enjoyed hunting, fishing and scuba diving. He was also a profound lover of canines and gave many Labrador retrievers a very happy home.
