Tom Hedgpeth lands top Spanish mackerel

The Northern Neck Anglers Club recently announced the results of the club’s Spanish Lessons Tournament on August 19, sponsored by R.W.’s Sport Shop of Callao.

The target species were Spanish mackerel, bluefish and spot, reported vice president and tournament director Mark Roy.

Weather and wind were favorable on August 19; however, tournament competition initially slated also for August 18 had to be canceled due to Small Craft Advisories for the Drum Point to Smith Point area (lower Maryland waters of Chesapeake Bay) and Cobb Island to Smith Point (lower Potomac River) area, said Roy.

In final tournament results, Tom Hedgepeth placed first in the Spanish mackerel competition with a 2 pound, 6 ounce fish weighed at Smith Point Marina. John O’Connor placed first in bluefish with a 1 pound, 5 ounce fish weighed at Buzzards Point Marina. Stuart McKenzie placed first in spot with a 6 ounce fish weighed at Lewisetta Marina.

All area anglers are urged to join the club. Annual dues are $30 and all tournaments are free to members…
