Lancaster High School right-hander and James Madison signee Matthew Kleinfelter has been named the 2019 Class 1 state baseball player of the year.
The all-state first and second teams were released by the Virginia High School League June 20.
Kleinfelter, who was also named to the first team as pitcher, helped lead LHS to its best record in school history at 21-4. The Red Devils finished as the state runner-up to Auburn, which filled four spots on the state’s first team. Auburn coach Eric Atlizer was named the coach of the year.
Lancaster’s Nick Wohleking was named to the all-state second team as a pitcher.
Kleinfelter batted .389 this season with six doubles, two home runs, 17 runs scored and 20 RBIs. He set a new single-season strikeout record…
