Town council decides on landscaping issue at White Stone intersection

WHITE STONE—Landscaping in the business district was again discussed by the White Stone Town Council on September 5.

Pointe Provisions owner Liza Carter asked council to consider adding more green space to the downtown area by planting periwinkle ground cover on a two-foot strip between a new curb gutter and a sidewalk at Rappahannock and Chesapeake drives. The spot is directly across the intersection from her business, where the town recently demolished an abandoned service station.

Mayor William Hubbard referred the suggestion to building and external environment committee chairman Charles Brocklebank, who praised the transformation Carter has made to the facade and landscaping at her business. Business owners can do what they want with their properties; however, the strip in question is a Virginia Department of Transportation right of way and the town had to be more….
