The Northern Neck Sail and Power Squadron and Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 33 will present two short seminars to interested boaters April 21 at the Lancaster Community Library, 16 Town Centre Drive, Kilmarnock.
The auxiliary will offer Suddenly in Command from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The course is for inexperienced boaters who may need to handle a boat in the event the boat operator is disabled, said Ray Reuter of the power squadron.
The power squadron will offer a short course on the VHF radio from 1 to 3 p.m. The course will address the Digital Calling feature, an explanation of the Coast Guard’s “Rescue 21” system for boaters in distress and an explanation with a demonstration on how to talk to the Coast Guard, said Reuter. The fee for the VHF seminar is $15 for materials.
