The Mathews High School junior varsity baseball team scored in every inning and opened up a five-run lead with back-to-back four-run rallies to beat Lancaster, 18-8, in five innings last Thursday in the Wells Fargo Advisors Invitational at Dream Fields in Kilmarnock.
The game turned out to be the only one of the weather-shortened invitational for the LHS JV baseball team. Lancaster was initially scheduled to play a second game on Saturday in the three-day event; however, a forecast that called for rain and snow forced action into two days with several JV and varsity baseball games eliminated.
