Umphlett appointed to Kilmarnock council

KILMARNOCK—Former mayor Mae P. Umphlett is back serving the town of Kilmarnock. On Monday, November 20, she was appointed to fill a vacant seat following the passing of late council member Tom Watson. 

Umphlett was one of three candidates seeking the appointment. After hearing comments from each candidate, Rebecca Nunn moved to appoint Umphlett to fill the seat. Les Spivey seconded the motion, Mike Bedell and Kylie Abbott also voted in favor. Curtis Smith was absent from the meeting. 

According to Lancaster County Clerk of Court Diane Mumford, Umphlett is filling the unexpired term of Don Lee, whose seat Watson was previously filling. The term will expire November 2024, she said.
