Burns event
The Kilmarnock & District Pipe Band will hold a “Tribute to Robert Burns” Saturday, January 27, at the Masonic Lodge #100, 1434 Good Luck Road, Kilmarnock. Doors will open at 1 p.m. and the program will begin at 2 p.m. The event will offer snacks and set-ups; BYOB.
Tickets are $35 each and available at The Local in Irvington, Chesapeake Bank in Kilmarnock and White Stone, and Primis Bank in Burgess.
TOGA meeting
The Tidewater Oyster Gardeners Association will hold its 2024 annual meeting from 1-5 p.m. Saturday, January 27, at Watermen’s Hall at the Virginia Institute of Marine Sciences (VIMS), 1370 Greate Road, Gloucester Point.
VIMS professor Dr. Roger Mann will discuss Virginia’s oyster productivity over the last 25 years and address the current status of oysters in the Chesapeake Bay. Chamber series
The Northern Neck Orchestra 2023-24 Chamber Music Series will continue with “Cello Suites by Bach Parts One and Two,” at 7:30 p.m. February 3 and 2 p.m. February 4 at Grace Episcopal Church, 303 South Main Street, Kilmarnock.
Admission is by season subscription, or $30 for each session. Tickets may be purchased at www.northernneckorchestra.org or at the door. Students are admitted free.
Sky watch
Belle Isle State Park (BISP) on February 3 will host a presentation on star systems and galaxies. The speaker will be retired NASA engineer and astronomer Brad Perry.
The program will be held rain or shine at 7 p.m. in the Visitor Center at BISP, 1632 Belle Isle Road, Lancaster. Following the presentation and weather permitting, the group will move outdoors for telescopic viewing of star systems and galaxies.
Chicken dinners
Chicken dinners will be available from 5-6:30 p.m. on first Mondays at American Legion Post #117, 39 School Street, Reedville.
Meals include fried chicken, mashed potatoes, choice of vegetables, salad, roll, dessert and drink. Dinners are $12 for adults and $6 for children ages 12 and younger, at the door.
Basic gardening
The Virginia Cooperative Extension Northern Neck Master Gardeners (NNMG) will conduct a free Basic Gardening Course from 10 a.m.-noon February 17 at the Central Rappahannock Regional Library, Newton Branch, 22 Coles Point Road, Hague.

Birthday visit
Rice’s Hotel/Hughlett’s Tavern, 73 Monument Place, Heathsville, will host reenactors Jan and George Beckett as they portray Mary and George Washington at 3 p.m. February 17. A light buffet of some of Washington’s favorite foods will be offered, as well as hot mulled port or apple cider.

Thoughtful gardening
The Garden Club of the Northern Neck will host Leslie Harris of Into the Garden with Leslie at 10 a.m. February 29 at Good Luck Cellars, 1025 Good Luck Road, Kilmarnock.
Harris will present “Thoughtful gardening: how to combine sustainability with beauty in the garden.” The program is free and open to the public.
