History trail

The Northern Neck Hidden History Trail will hold two official launch ceremonies on Saturday, March 9. Ceremonies will take place from 10 a.m.-noon at Historic Christ Church, 420 Christ Church Road, Weems, and from 3-5 p.m. at Stratford Hall, 483 Great House Road, Stratford. The Northern Neck Hidden History Trail may be accessed at www.nnkhiddenhistorytrail.org.

Hundley Hall

Middle Peninsula African-American Genealogical and Historical Society will meet virtually at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 9. Mary Chamberlin will present “Identifying African-Americans Who Lived and Worked at Hundley Hall.” Hundley Hall, circa 1820, is in Dunnsville.

Open house

Historic Christ Church & Museum, 420 Christ Church Road, Weems, will host a Volunteer Open House from 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 12. Attendees can learn more about Christ Church; meet staff members and other volunteers; tour the church, museum and research library; and learn about the volunteer opportunities available at the historic site.

Woman’s club

The Woman’s Club of Northumberland County will meet at noon, Tuesday, March 12, at the WCNC Clubhouse, 2928 Northumberland Highway, Lottsburg. There will be a guest speaker, a business meeting and refreshments.

Auction/dinner

Tickets are on sale for the LHS Athletics Auction/Dinner at 6 p.m. March 16 at LHS, 8815 Mary Ball Road, Lancaster. Tickets are $20 each and include a catered dinner by The River Market in White Stone.

The event, sponsored by the Lancaster High School Athletic Booster Club, will include both a silent and live auction, a “Fund an Item” auction and sideline chair sponsorship opportunities. To donate an auction item or purchase tickets to the dinner, call LHS at 462-5177.

Flea market

Northern Neck Partners for Pets will conduct a vintage Flea Market from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. March 16 at the Fricke Pavilion, 790 Devils Bottom Road, Lancaster. Proceeds will support a no kill animal shelter.

Multiple vendors will offer vintage treasures, antiques, furniture, jewelry and birdhouses. 50/50 raffles will be held throughout the day for gift certificates. Market entry is by donation.

Crafting bee

The Historyland Community Workshop (HCW) meets at 10 a.m. first and third Mondays at Lancaster Community Library, 16 Town Centre Drive, Kilmarnock. New members are welcome. The crafting group creates items to sell and raise money for higher education scholarships and libraries.

Benefit breakfast

The Northumberland County Lions Club will serve breakfast, eat-in or take-out, from 8-10 a.m. March 23 at Bethany Baptist Church, 16256 Richmond Road, Callao. The menu will offer pancakes, scrambled eggs, hash browns, grits, biscuits, sausage gravy, breakfast meats, coffee, orange juice, water and milk.

Donations will support children’s playground equipment at Hometown Community Park in Callao. The suggested donation for adults is $15 per person and for families, $25.

Author talk

Mystery writer S.A. Cosby will be featured at an author talk at 3 p.m. March 23 at the Essex High School Auditorium, 833 High School Circle, Tappahannock. Essex Public Library will sponsor the presentation by Cosby. He will speak about his life and work, followed by a question and answer session and a book signing.

The event will be free. Copies of the books will be available for purchase at the book signing.

Chamber series

The Northern Neck Orchestra (NNO) 2023-24 Chamber Music Series will feature Quartets for Voice and Strings at 2 p.m. April 14 at Good Luck Cellars, 1025 Goodluck Road, Kilmarnock.

Admission is by season subscription, or $35. Tickets may be purchased at www.northernneckorchestra.org or at the check-in desk. Students are admitted free.

Chicken dinners

Chicken dinners will be available from 5-6:30 p.m. on first Mondays at American Legion Post #117, 39 School Street, Reedville.

Meals include fried chicken, mashed potatoes, choice of vegetables, salad, roll, dessert and drink. Dinners are $12 for adults and $6 for children ages 12 and younger, at the door.

Gardening seminar

The Northern Neck Master Gardeners (NNMG) Association will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Gardening in the Northern Neck Seminar (GNN) on April 13. The seminar will be held at Lancaster Elementary School, 191 School Street, Kilmarnock.

The theme will be “Creating Outdoor Spaces—Defining Your Lifestyle.” The seminar fee is $50. Lunches will be available for an additional fee. Registration forms are available at www.nnmg.org.
