First Fridays

The RAL Art Center, 19 North Main Street, Kilmarnock, will host a First Fridays Exhibit Receptions from 5-7 p.m. June 4. The exhibit will feature original art in the Great Art Heist.

Summer concert

The Soul Expressions will open the Music on the Half Shell Stage 2021 series. The concert will be held from 7-9:30 p.m. June 11 at Town Centre Park, 150 North Main Street, Kilmarnock.

Admission is $10. Children younger than 5 are free with a paying adult. Purchase tickets at kilmarnockva.ticketleap.com or at the door.

Park concerts

Music by the River at Belle Isle State Park, 1632 Belle Isle Road, Lancaster, will continue June 12 with Stuck on A Name and June 19 with Rappahannock Crossing The concerts will begin at 6 p.m.

A limited number of picnic tables will be available. Bring lawn chairs or blankets. There is a $5 parking fee payable at the park entrance. For directions, or to confirm show in case of inclement weather, call 462-5030.

Kites

Good Luck Cellars, 1025 Goodluck Road, Kilmarnock, will host a “Kite Flying Spectacular” from 1-4 p.m. June 12 with the Peak of Otter Kite Flyers, experts of the American Kite Association.

The Flip Side food truck will be on site from 1-6 p.m. The vineyard is open from 11 a.m.-8 p.m.

Unleashed

Unleashed, a fashion show and luncheon on June 16, will benefit the Animal Welfare League of the Northern Neck (AWL). The event will be held from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at Indian Creek Yacht and Country Club, 362 Club Drive, Kilmarnock.

Tickets are $40 and are available at the AWL Thrift Store, 75 South Main Street, Kilmarnock. Cash or checks are accepted. The thrift store hours are 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

Virtual history

The Lancaster Virginia Historical Society’s virtual program “Towles Family Tales and Growing up in Rural Lancaster County in the 1950s-60s,” by William H. Towles Jr., will be presented at  3 p.m. June 17.

Art heist

The RAL Art Center, 19 North Main Street, Kilmarnock, will celebrate the Great Art Heist from 4-8 p.m. June 26. Tickets to the Great Art Heist are $100 for members and $125 for others. 

For tickets, visit the RAL Art Center, or call 436-9309. Ticket holders will take home original art by RAL members.

Juneteenth

The Interracial Conversations of the Northern Neck and Macorp Inc will present a Juneteenth Fair, Celebrating Freedom and Community Unity, from 4:30-7:30 p.m. June 19 at Rice’s Hotel/Hughlett’s Tavern, 73 Monument Place, Heathsville.

The event will include vendors, music, food, children’s activities and free COVID-19 vaccinations.

Bluegrass concert

The Seldom Scene will present “Live At The Cellar Door” September 25 at Mount Airy Farm, 361 Millpond Road, Warsaw. The outdoor concert, rescheduled from 2020, will open at 4 p.m. with an act to be determined followed by two sets of the Seldom Scene starting at 5 p.m. All previously purchased tickets will be honored at this new date. 

General admission tickets are $35 per person. A limited number of VIP tickets will be sold for $75 per person. Tickets are available at www.mountairy.farm, or 313-0815.
