Barbecue dinner
Rice’s Hotel/Hughlett’s Tavern Foundation will conduct a takeout barbecue dinner fundraiser from 4-6 p.m. July 12 at The Tavern, 73 Monument Place, Heathsville. The fee is $20. Pre-purchase meals at www.rhhtfoundationinc.org, or call 580-3377.
Sid Mace will make smoked pulled chicken, white sauce and baked beans. The meal also comes with pasta salad, carrot slaw, a bun and “blonde” brownie for dessert.

The Northumberland Public Library (NPL), 7204 Northumberland Highway, Heathsville, is open by appointment to all patrons who want to enter the library and use its services, borrow a book or a movie. Curbside service also is available. Call 580-5051.
LCL hours
The Lancaster Community Library is open from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays. The Attic Bookstore will be open from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays. Visit the library on Facebook, lancasterlibrary.org, or contact the library at 435-1729 ext 18.
Wearing a mask will be required per state requirement, with exceptions for those with medical or other conditions or children under the age of 10. Additional protocols will be followed.
Staying afloat
The Steamboat Era Museum (SEM) is conducting a fundraising campaign through Tuesday, June 30. Twenty percent of all monies raised during the campaign will be donated to the Boys & Girls Club of the Northern Neck’s meals program.

Story Time
The Northumberland Public Library (NPL), 7204 Northumberland Highway, Heathsville, offers “Once upon a Time” Virtual Story Time. On June 24, the focus will be on The Little Red Hen.

Paint night
RAL Art Center, 19 North Main Street, Kilmarnock, will host an Adult Paint Night from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday, June 25. The project will be “Old Glory.” The instructor will be Doug Mock.

Summer concert
Pending the relaxation of existing COVID-19 restrictions, Music by the River will open July 11 with traditional country, southern rock and blues by Muddy Boots. The family-friendly outdoor concerts are staged from 6-8 p.m. in the waterfront picnic area at Belle Isle State Park, 1632 Belle Isle Road, Lancaster.
The shows are free; however, there is a $5 parking fee payable at the park entrance. Picnics are welcome. Bring lawn chairs or blankets. Call 462-5030, to confirm show.
Music at Fish Hawk
Enjoy music at Fish Hawk Oyster Bar at Tides Inn, 480 King Carter Drive, Irvington, performed by local artists from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Wednesdays through September, weather permitting.

Piano jazz bar
The Tides Inn, 480 King Carter Drive, Irvington, will offer a piano bar Fridays and Saturdays through Labor Day, from 6-8 p.m. in the Chesapeake Restaurant and 8-10 p.m. in the View Room.
Sip on an after-dinner cappuccino, a decadent cordial or a favorite cocktail while listening to jazz piano performances by resident musician Eric Lyttle. The piano bar is complimentary for resort and restaurant guests.
