Annual meeting

The annual meeting of the Northumberland County Historical Society will take place at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 30 at the Tavern Meeting Building, Rice’s Hotel/Hughlett’s Tavern, 73 Monument Place, Heathsville. Members and the public are welcome to attend the annual meeting. For lunch reservations, call 580-8581 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Wednesdays through Fridays.

Woman’s Club

The Woman’s Club of White Stone will meet at 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 3, at the WCWS Clubhouse, 560 Chesapeake Drive, White Stone. 

The guest speaker will be Cheri Bennett, grief counselor with the Bay Center in Kilmarnock. Grief can be confusing, exhausting, and lonely. The public is invited, contact Amy Haines, 690-8763.   

Fried chicken

The Northumberland County Community Center, 679 Browns Store Road, Heathsville, will serve a fried chicken dinner from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. August 5.

The menu will include fried chicken, potato salad, green beans, roll, dessert and beverage. The fee is $13. Contact: James M. Long, 724-3240.

Barbecue

American Legion Adams Post #86 will sell pulled pork barbecue from 3-6 p.m. August 13 at the Post Home, 882 Waverly Avenue, Kilmarnock. The cost is $12 per pound.

Post meetings

American Legion Adams Post #86 will meet at 7 p.m. on third Tuesdays at the Post Home, 882 Waverly Avenue, Kilmarnock. The ladies auxiliary also will meet at the same time.

Chicken dinners

Chicken dinners will be available from 5-6:30 p.m. on first Mondays at American Legion Post #117, 39 School Street, Reedville. Meals include fried chicken, mashed potatoes, choice of vegetables, salad, roll, dessert and drink. 

Dinners are $12 for adults and $6 for children ages 12 and younger, at the door.

Concert series

The 2022 Music by the River  concert series continues at Belle Isle State Park, 1632 Belle Isle Road, Lancaster. A $5 parking fee is payable at the park entrance.

The schedule includes RTC Band, August 13; Southern Grace, August 20; and Patsy & the Country Classics, September 3. Concerts begin at 6 p.m.

Family camp

Stratford Hall, 485 Great House Road, Stratford, will host Family Fun Camp August 5-7. This event includes a 2-night, 3-day package with meals, lodging and activities. Pre-registration is required.

Family Fridays

Stratford Hall, 485 Great House Road, Stratford, will host Family First Fridays from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. August 5. The event offers archaeology and paleontology experiences, material culture, games and demonstrations. Lunch also will be available for purchase from local food truck, Daddy’s Baby BBQ beginning at 11 a.m.

Tickets are $15 for ages 14 and older, $10 for ages 6-13, and free for ages 5 and younger. Purchase advance tickets at stratfordhall.org.

Crab Festival

The Irvington Crab Festival will be held from 4-8 p.m. September 17 at the Irvington Town Commons, 98 King Carter Drive, Irvington. The menu includes crabs, barbecue, hot dogs and soft drinks. Beer and wine will be available for purchase.

Adult tickets are $60 per person, $75 after August 17. Admission for children 5-12 is $20. Children younger than age 5 are free. Purchase tickets at the Steamboat Era Museum, 156 King Carter Drive, Irvington, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Thursdays through Mondays (1-4 p.m. Sundays), or at steamboateramuseum.org.

Music festival

The Colonial Beach Community Foundation will host the fourth annual Northern Neck Beach Music Festival September 10, featuring The Embers, on Town Hill in Colonial Beach.

Advance tickets are available at www.nnbeachmusic.org via EventBrite for $39 until September 1. Tickets at the gate the day of the event will be $49. Guests are urged to bring a chair. Concert bus

The Kilmarnock Museum will sponsor a bus trip November 5 to see the Rhonda Vincent Show at the Old Dominion Barn Dance, Beacon Theater, Hopewell. The bus will depart the Chesapeake Commons parking lot at approximately noon.

Tickets are $110 each and include transportation, show admission, snacks on the bus and a special appearance by several performers on the bus following the show. To order tickets, call 462-7608 or 296-0930.
