Hay bale contest
The annual Hay Bale Decorating Contest sponsored by the Virginia Farm Bureau Federation Women’s Leadership Committee opens September 1. Applications will be accepted through November 1.
Guidelines and an entry form are available at bit.ly/2Z6gyMw. Cash awards will be presented for best promotional display for agriculture business or commodity, best promotional display for community spirit, most creative, best agricultural theme and best agribusiness, FFA, 4-H or school display.
RAL Art Center, 19 North Main Street, Kilmarnock, will host an Adult Paint Night from 6:30-8:30 p.m. August 27. The project will be “Anchors Aweigh.” The artist/instructor will be Doug Mock.
The fee is $30 for members and $35 for others and includes all materials. Participants are reminded to bring a beverage, snack and mask. For reservations, call 436-9309.
A scaled-back outdoor Market Day will be held from 8 a.m.-noon October 10 at Wicomico Parish Episcopal Church, 5191 Jessie Ball duPont Memorial Highway, Wicomico Church.
There will be a yard sale, a “men’s table” and gourmet foods. Market Day will observe state restrictions in place in October. All attendees are urged to wear masks. Hand sanitizer will be available and social distancing will be followed.
Piano jazz bar
The Tides Inn, 480 King Carter Drive, Irvington, will offer a piano bar Fridays and Saturdays through Labor Day, from 6-10 p.m. in the Chesapeake Club.
Sip on an after-dinner cappuccino, a decadent cordial or a favorite cocktail while listening to jazz piano performances by resident musician Eric Lyttle. The piano bar is complimentary for resort and restaurant guests.
On the creek
Enjoy music at Fish Hawk Oyster Bar at Tides Inn, 480 King Carter Drive, Irvington, performed by local artists from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Wednesdays through September, weather permitting.
The Meltones will be featured September 2 and 9.
