Arts Alive
The Friends of Northumberland Public Library will host an Arts Alive reception at 5 p.m. Friday, September 11, at NPL, 7204 Northumberland Highway, Heathsville. The featured artist will be Hilary Derby.
Author talk
The Middle Peninsula African-American Genealogical and Historical Society (MPAAGHS) will hold a virtual meeting at 11 a.m. September 12. Historian Melvin Patrick Ely will discuss A Terrible Intimacy: Interracial Life in the Slaveholding South.

Crab feast
The Morattico Waterfront Museum, 6584 Morattico Road, Morattico, will hold its annual crab feast from 3-5 p.m. Saturday, September 12. The menu will include steamed crabs, hot dogs, sides and desserts. Bring a crab knife, but leave pets coolers and take-home containers at home.

Music festival
The eighth annual Northern Neck Beach Music Festival will be held from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. September 12 and 13 on Town Hill in Colonial Beach. Participants can expect dancing, food, beverages and raffles. Saturday music will include Feature Attraction Band (FAB) and The Chris Sacks Band. Sunday music will include River Rock and Band of Oz.

Voices of the past
Library of Virginia historian Eric Johnson will present “Voices of Revolution: Middlesex County in the Words of Its People” at 3 p.m. Sunday, September 13, at the Middlesex County Historic Courthouse, 865 General Puller Highway, Saluda.
The program is sponsored by the Middlesex County, Virginia 250 Committee. Refreshments will be served following the talk.
Chorale rehearsals
The Chesapeake Chorale will begin rehearsals for its 29th holiday concert season at 7 p.m. September 14, at Grace Episcopal Church, 303 South Main Street, Kilmarnock, and will continue each Monday through November.
Auditions are not required. Concerts will be held December 5 at Lancaster Elementary School and December 6 at St. Clare Walker Middle School. The Chorale also will present music for Holly and the Ivy at December 7 at Historic Christ Church & Museum.
Fiber guild
The Five Rivers Fiber Guild will at 10 a.m. Monday, September 14, in Art Room 2 at the Life Enrichment Center, Rappahannock Westminster-Canterbury (RWC), 132 Lancaster Drive, Irvington.
The program will include show and tell, display case viewing. Lunch will be available for purchase in the Lakeview Grille at RWC.
Movietime
Upcoming Movies on the Half Shell Stage at Town Centre Park, 150 North Main Street, Kilmarnock, will include Coco on September 17; Toy Story, October 8; Hocus Pocus, October 29; Elf, December 10; and The Polar Express, December 17.
The free movies will begin at sunset. The December movies will be available to enjoy from the comfort of automobiles.
RCA season
Tickets are on sale for the Rappahannock Concert Association (RCA) 2026-27 season. Five performances will begin at 7:30 p.m. at Northumberland High School, 201 Academic Lane, Heathsville. The sixth concert will begin at 3 p.m. at Generals Ridge Vineyard, 1818 Weldons Ridge Road, Hague. The season will open September 19 with the Jeff Little Trio.
A season subscription for five shows at NHS is $135 reserved seating, or $110 general admission. Other options include a pick three, $70; or individual show tickets, $35 each. Tickets for the show at Generals Ridge are $20. Purchase tickets at rappahannockconcerts.org, or 1-888-210-8006.
Ride for CERT
Eastern Virginia Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) will partner with American Legion Post 86 host Ride for CERT Motorcycle Poker Run on September 19. Riders will gather at 8:30 a.m. at Town Centre Park, 150 North Main Street, Kilmarnock. Depart at 9 a.m. with stops at various venues.

Photo Group
The Rappahannock Art League Photo Group seeks new members of all levels who wish to improve their skills. The Photo Group meets at 10 a.m. on third Mondays at the Lancaster Community Library, 16 Town Centre Drive, Kilmarnock.

Commonwealth Senior Living at Kilmarnock will host an antique appraisal event from 1-3 p.m. September 24 at Town Centre Park, 150 North Main Street, Kilmarnock.
Participants may bring up to two antiques or collectibles for appraisal by Henry Lane Hull of Commonwealth Antiques and Appraisals. Light refreshments will be served.
Books Alive

Rise & Fall
The Essex County Museum and Historical Society, 218 South Water Lane, Tappahannock, will host the Rise & Fall Festival September 25 through 27. The heritage celebration will offer free activities for all ages Saturday and Sunday.
The Ship’s Company Chanteymen will perform from 5-6:30 p.m. Friday. Gates will open at 4:30 p.m. General admission tickets are $20. Dom Flemons will perform traditional roots music from 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday. Gates will open at 6:30 p.m. General admission tickets are $40. On Stage
Tickets are on sale for the upcoming Rappahannock Foundation for the Arts On Stage season at the Lancaster High School Auditorium and Performing Arts Center, 100 Visionary Way, Irvington. Shows will begin at 7:30 p.m. The season will open September 26 with the Virginia Symphony.

Chicken dinners
Chicken dinners will be available from 4:30-6 p.m. on first Mondays at American Legion Post #117, 39 School Street, Reedville.
Meals include fried chicken, mashed potatoes, choice of vegetables, salad, roll, dessert and drink. Dinners are $14 for adults and $7 for children ages 12 and younger, at the door.
Boots & Barbecue
The Northern Neck Land Conservancy will hold Boots and Barbecue from 1-4 p.m. October 3 at Lawson Bay Farm, 326 Lawson Bay Road, White Stone.

Daffodil forum
The Gloucester Daffodil Club (GDC) will host the American Daffodil Society (ADS) Middle Atlantic Region Fall Forum from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. October 24 at the Fine Arts museum of Gloucester, 6894 Main Street, Gloucester. In addition to speakers on a variety of daffodil topics, the event will include receptions, garden tours, a boutique and tastings from Daffodils and Delicacies, Divine Dining.

NNO tickets
Tickets are on sale for the 2026-27 Northern Neck Orchestra five-concert season at the Lancaster High School Auditorium and Performing Arts Center, 100 Visionary Way, Irvington. The season will open October 10 with pianist Nina Schumann on the Steinway Model D concert grand piano.

The Animal Welfare League of the Northern Neck will host Tiles & Cards, a mahjongg and bridge luncheon fundraiser, from 11:30 a.m.-3 p.m. November 18 at Grace Church Parish Hall, 303 South Main Street, Kilmarnock.
