Wine & Whiskers

Garfield’s Rescue Inc. will host Wine & Whiskers, a benefit evening of music, wine, hors d’oeuvres and a silent auction from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, September 22, at Triple V Farms, 3138 Jessie Dupont Memorial Highway, Heathsville. The rain date is September 29.

Tickets are $30. Tickets must be purchased in advance at www.garfieldsrescue.org, or Triple V Farms, WOWD,  Bayside Animal Hospital, FNCAS Thrift Shop.

Roots music

The Foundation for Historic Christ Church’s John H. Hunt II Chesapeake History Forum will present Gregg Kimball with “Virginia Roots Music with a Taste of the Chesapeake.”The program will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, September 24, at Historic Christ Church, 420 Christ Church Road, Weems.

The event includes a light supper and libations following the performance. Tickets are $40 and may be purchased at ChristChurch1735.org or at the FHCC office.

Chorale rehearsals

The Chesapeake Chorale welcome all singers, new to the group, and returning, to  rehearsals at 7 p.m. Mondays at Grace Episcopal Church, 303 South Main Street, Kilmarnock.

The chorale is preparing for Christmas concerts on December 2, 3, 4 and 5.

Concerts By The Bay

Concerts By The Bay recently announced its upcoming season. All performances will begin at 3 p.m. at the Harry M. Ward Auditorium, Mathews High School, 9889 Buckley Hall Road, Mathews.

Shows include the Richmond Symphony, September 25; the Bobby BlackHat Band, October 16; Hooray for Hollywood, November 20; Jeff Little, March 12; and Judy Carmichael, April 23. Season subscriptions start at $100. Purchase subscriptions at www.concertsbythebay.org.

Quilt raffle

The American Legion Adams Post 86 Ladies Auxiliary is conducting a raffle for a patriotic, queen-size quilt. A drawing will be held December 3.

Tickets are $1 each or six tickets for $5. The tickets will be sold from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on September 22 and October 6, 7, 20 and 21 at Tri-Star Supermarket, 81 Irvington Road, Kilmarnock. Tickets also may be purchased from any auxiliary member.

Post meetings

American Legion Adams Post #86 will meet at 7 p.m. on third Tuesdays at the Post Home, 882 Waverly Avenue, Kilmarnock. The ladies auxiliary also will meet at the same time.

Chicken dinners

Chicken dinners will be available from 5-6:30 p.m. on first Mondays at American Legion Post #117, 39 School Street, Reedville.

Meals include fried chicken, mashed potatoes, choice of vegetables, salad, roll, dessert and drink. Dinners are $12 for adults and $6 for children ages 12 and younger, at the door.

Author event

The Friends of the Library of Rappahannock Community College are sponsoring a luncheon and book signing at 11:30 a.m. October 6 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1717 Hampton Hall Road, Callao. Ann Eichenmuller and Larry Chowning are the featured authors.

Orchestra tickets

Tickets are on sale for the 2022-23 Northern Neck Orchestra. The concert season will open October 15, at the Lancaster Middle School Theater, Kilmarnock. Both the March 25 and May 20, 2023, concerts will be at the Northumberland High School Theater, Claraville.

Season tickets for the three concerts are $96. Tickets for individual performances are $40. Purchase tickets at www.northernneckorchestra.org or at the door. Students are admitted free.

Raise the Roof

The “Raise the Roof” Craft Beer Fest will be held from 1-6 p.m. October 15 at Historic Christ Church, 420 Christ Church Road, Weems. The event will feature music Good Shot Judy and Bobby “BlackHat” Walters, craft beers, wine, barbecue and ice cream.

On Stage

The Rappahannock Foundation On Stage series at the Lancaster Middle School Theater, 191 School Street, Kilmarnock continued with The Whiskey Rebellion, on October 22; Broadway’s Next Hit Musical, November 19; and Jose Feliciano, December 15.

Season subscriptions are $180, call 438-5555. Single tickets are $45 each, except Feliciano, $73. Purchase single tickets at www.rappahannockfoundation.org.

Woman’s brunch

A Woman’s Empowerment Brunch, sponsored by My Wife Can’t Cook, will be held from noon-4 p.m. October 22 at the White Stone Church of the Nazarene, 57 Whisk Drive, White Stone.
