Mystery party

Everyone is invited to Mystery Party in the Stacks at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, October 13, at Lancaster Community Library, 16 Town Centre Drive, Kilmarnock.

Experience an evening with Agatha Christie, have a selfie with Christie, participate in puzzle activities, enjoy refreshments and above all—tea! Call the library to register, 435-1729.

I spy RQG

The Rivah Quilt Guild (RQG) will meet at 10 a.m. Friday, October 14, at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 435 East Church Street, Kilmarnock. Member Susan Brandli will lead a workshop making/assembling “I Spy” quilts.

Theme fabric, thread, backing fabric, batting and binding fabric will be available.  Participants may also bring theme fabric and other supplies; if possible, sewing machines, rotary cutters and mats. The program will be preceded by a short business meeting, a quilt show and tell, and followed by a snack.

GOP oyster roast

The Northumberland County Republican Committee will host an oyster roast from 2-5 p.m. Saturday, October 15, at Cowart Seafood, 755 Lake Drive, Lottsburg.

Chili cookoff

The Haven Souper Chili Cookoff will be held from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, October 15, at Garner’s Produce, 22645 Kings Highway, Warsaw.

There will be a variety of soups, stews, gumbos, chilis, baked goods, vendors, children’s activities, music and beverages from Montross Brewery.

Raise the Roof

The “Raise the Roof” Craft Beer Fest will be held from 1-6 p.m. Saturday, October 15, at Historic Christ Church, 420 Christ Church Road, Weems. The event will feature music Good Shot Judy and Bobby “BlackHat” Walters, craft beers, wine, barbecue and ice cream.

Bingo Night

The Haven Bingo Night will be held from 7-9 p.m. October 21 at Montross Brewery, 15381 Kings Highway, Montross. The fee is $10 for three cards. Additional cards will be available for purchase.

Celebrating Preservation

Tickets are available for the Middlesex County Museum and Historical Society’s (MCMHS) Celebrating Preservation fundraiser 1-3 p.m. Saturday, October 16, at the Historic Barn at Rosegill, 1824 Urbanna Road, Urbanna.

Tickets are $30 in advance and $35 at the door. Advance tickets are available at middlesexmuseum.com. October 10 is the last day to buy advance tickets.

Concerts By The Bay

Concerts By The Bay recently announced its upcoming season. All performances will begin at 3 p.m. at the Harry M. Ward Auditorium, Mathews High School, 9889 Buckley Hall Road, Mathews.

Shows include the Bobby BlackHat Band, October 16; Hooray for Hollywood, November 20; Jeff Little, March 12; and Judy Carmichael, April 23. Season subscriptions start at $100. Purchase subscriptions at www.concertsbythebay.org.

Pumpkin walk

Main Street Pumpkin Walk will be held from 4-6 p.m. October 29 in Kilmarnock. Main Street merchants and other community businesses, non-profits and churches will welcome trick-or-treaters. Costumes encouraged.

NAACP meeting

The Northumberland County Chapter of the NAACP will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, October 17, at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, 6749 Jessie duPont Memorial Highway, Heathsville.

A salute to the Constitution

The Mathews County Republican Committee will hold a spaghetti dinner from 5:30-8 p.m. October 26, at Piankatank Ruritan Club, 7138 Buckley Hall Road, Hudgins. The guest speaker will be Allison Larson, director of the Bill of Rights Institute and associate dean at the William & Mary Law School.

The menu will include spaghetti, salad, bread, beverage and dessert; beer and wine will be available at an additional charge. Tickets are $20, two for $35, and $6 for those 12 and younger. Tickets are available at Haskins Bayside Service, from MCRC members or 725-5117, by October 20.

River Stitchers                  

The River Stitchers meet from 10 a.m.-noon on first and third Thursdays in room W117 at Rappahannock Community College, 52 Campus Drive, Warsaw.

Renaissance faire

The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of the Rappahannock (UUFR), 366 James Wharf Road, White Stone, will host a Renaissance-style Mystical, Magical Faire from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. October 22 The event will bring together musical, theatrical, artistic, culinary and other talents of local creative friends.

Tickets, $10 each, will be available at UUFR on Sunday mornings; at When Ordinary Won’t Do, 12 South Main Street, Kilmarnock; and at the event.

Woman’s brunch

A Woman’s Empowerment Brunch, sponsored by My Wife Can’t Cook, will be held from noon-4 p.m. October 22 at the White Stone Church of the Nazarene, 57 Whisk Drive, White Stone.

Halloween Game Day

The Woman’s Club of White Stone (WCWS) recently announced its Halloween Game Day fundraiser scheduled for Thursday, October 27, at the WCWS Clubhouse, 560 Chesapeake Drive, White Stone. Doors will open for game play at 10:30 a.m., followed at noon by a Halloween buffet lunch.
