Paint Night

RAL Art Center, 19 North Main Street, Kilmarnock, will hold Paint Night from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday, October 29. The topic will be “Cleat and Rope.”  The instructor will be Doug Mock.

Wreath sale

Northern Neck CASA wreaths will be available for purchase until Friday, October 30. The Fraser fir wreaths are 22 inches in diameter and sell for $25 each.

They will be distributed December 3, 4 and 5 at three distribution centers.  To place an order, call 462-0881.

Drive-thru

trick-or-treat

Lancaster by the Bay Chamber and Indian Creek Yacht and Country Club (ICYCC) will present the “Great Pumpkin Drive-thru Trick-or-Treat and Scavenger Hunt” from 3-5 p.m on Halloween, Saturday, October 31, at ICYCC, 362 Club Drive, Kilmarnock.

The event is open to everyone and businesses are urged to set up booths along Club Drive and distribute candy to trick-or-treaters as they drive by in their vehicles. Parents are urged to post a picture of their costumed children using #icycchalloween for a chance to win prizes.  Scavenger hunt forms will be available upon arrival and completed forms will be entered for a chance to win prizes. All prizes will be announced on ICYCC’s Facebook page at noon November 2.

“Kandy for Kids”

Wicomico United Methodist Church, 5060 Jessie duPont Memorial Highway, Wicomico Church, will hold a “Drive-Thru Kandy For Kids” from 4-6 p.m. on Halloween, Saturday, October 31.

Music in the vines

Good Luck Cellars, 1025 Goodluck Road, Kilmarnock, will host the Pocket Jazz Band, featuring music from their Cicada Sessions, from 2-5 p.m. Saturday, October 31. Guests are urged to bring chairs and picnics; social distancing will be observed.

Soup sale

The Lancaster Virginia Historical Society (LVHS) will hold a Fall Soup Sale fundraiser with Lancaster stew, bean and ham soup, and chicken noodle soup by the quart for $12 each. Pre-orders are required by Sunday, November 1, and pick-up will be from noon-3 p.m. November 14 at LVHS, 8346 Mary Ball Road, Lancaster. People can also sponsor “quarts for the community” for a $12 donation and LVHS will distribute soup to first responders and homebound senior citizens. 

  Soup orders can be placed at www.mkt.com/maryball, 462-7280, or by mailing a check to LVHS, PO Box 97, Lancaster VA 22503. Order forms also are available from LVHS board members.

Oyster roast

“Oysters To-Go-Go!” will be held from 2-5 p.m. November 14 in the Reedville Fishermen’s Museum/church parking lot, 504 Main Street, Reedville. The drive-thru menu will include either a dozen roasted oysters, cole slaw and a cookie for $25 per meal or an oyster po’boy sandwich kit, cole slaw, and a cookie for $20 per meal. Patrons may add a dozen roasted oysters for $10 a dozen. Extra po’boy kits are $10 per sandwich.

For mail–in orders, include a check made out to “RFM” and a stamped, self-addressed return envelope so the Museum staff can mail tickets. Include with the order, the number and type of meals and extras, plus intended time of pick-up.

Wine Down

Good Luck Cellers, 1025 Goodluck Road, Kilmarnock, recently announced Friday Night Wine Downs will continue through November under a provisional, outdoor, covered pavilion.

The Wine Downs, from 5-8 p.m., will feature a food truck and music by Bob Wilson. Guests may bring a picnic or order from the food truck on-site from 5-7:30 p.m. Music is from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Hay bale contest

The annual Hay Bale Decorating Contest sponsored by the Virginia Farm Bureau Federation Women’s Leadership Committee has begun. Applications will be accepted through Sunday, November 1.

Guidelines and an entry form are available at bit.ly/2Z6gyMw. Cash awards will be presented for best promotional display for agriculture business or commodity, best promotional display for community spirit, most creative, best agricultural theme and best agribusiness, FFA, 4-H or school display.
