Visit Stratford

On Friday, December 11, Stratford Hall will offer a free day for Lancaster and Northumberland residents to experience all that Stratford Hall has to offer. The free day includes admission to the Great House and historic buildings.

Explore the historic grounds with a grounds pass, extending access to the hiking trails, public beach area, gardens, public grounds, Visitor Center and Gift Shop. Enrich the visit with an audio tour—reserve in advance for either 10 a.m. or 2 p.m. options. Christmas chili

The Woman’s Club of White Stone will sell chili by the quart for $12. Call 435-0441 or 435-3046. If leaving a message, state the quantity desired and a phone number for confirmation.

Drive-by pick-up will be offered from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, December 12, at the WCWS Clubhouse, 560 Chesapeake Drive, White Stone.

Christmas in Guinea event

The Guinea Heritage Association will celebrate “Christmas in Guinea” with a special community event from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, December 12, at Union Baptist Church, 9254 Guinea Road, Gloucester. The public is asked to bring donations, including non-perishable food for local food pantries and new toys.

The event, inspired by the “Night Before Christmas in Guinea” song, will feature Santa in a skiff being pulled by a Harris Garage wrecker from 10 a.m.-noon and 2 p.m.-4 p.m. There also will be a Marker Nine Pop-Up Shop, Guinea Heritage Association gifts and a limited edition 2020 Christmas in Guinea t-shirt.

Zoom lecture
  

The Middlesex County Museum and Historical Society on Sunday, December 13, will present a Zoom lecture by Dr. Melvin Patrick Ely. At 4 p.m., Dr. Ely will speak about his book, Israel on the Appomattox: A Southern Experiment in Black Freedom from the 1790s Through the Civil War.

Oyster roast

The Mary Ball Washington Chapter of the Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge will host an oyster roast from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. January 24, 2021, at 838 Long Point Lane, Topping, to fundraise for Spirit of America scholarships and to increase membership. There will be a drive-thru option for those wishing to pick up their bag of 26 roasted oysters, instead of eating on the grounds

The fee is $40 per person, by pre-paid reservation only. For reservations, call 758-3432 or 453-9156. Follow up with a check made out to MBW-FFVF and mailed to P.O. Box 294, Locust Hill, VA 23092. Upon receiving the check, a confirmation call or email will be forwarded and the reservation will be recorded in “will call.”

Oyster dinner

The White Stone Volunteer Fire Department will hold a drive-thru oyster dinner from 5-8 p.m. Monday, December 14, at the White Stone Firehouse, 579 Chesapeake Drive, White Stone.

The menu will include fried oysters, green beans, coleslaw and hush puppies. Tickets are $20 and are available from any WSVFD member. Tickets will not be available at the door.

Toy drive

The Kilmarnock-Lancaster Volunteer Rescue Squad (KLVRS)  Christmas Toy Drive will continue until December 20. Deliver unwrapped gifts for ages newborn to 18 to KLVRS, 61 Harris Road, Kilmarnock. There will be a donation box out by the sign, or they can ring the doorbell and give it to a squad member.
