Chicken dinners

Beginning Monday, January 5, the American Legion Post #117, 39 School Street, Reedville, fried chicken dinners will observe new hours, 4:30-6 p.m. on first Mondays.

The menu will include fried chicken, mashed potatoes, choice of vegetables, salad, roll, dessert and beverages. The fee is $12 for adults, $6 for ages 12 and younger, payable at the door.

Traveling exhibit

The Richmond County Public Library at Rappahannock Community College in Warsaw will host Indigenous Perspectives, developed by the Library of Virginia, from January 5 through February 14.

The exhibition highlights the histories, voices and contemporary experiences of Virginia’s 11 federally and state-recognized tribal communities.

Steamboats

The January 9 and 17 “Steamboats on the Chesapeake” viewings at Compass Cinema Six, Compass Entertainment Complex, 100 Entertainment Drive, Irvington, are sold out. A third January viewing is planned.

Tickets are $10 and can be purchased from the Kilmarnock Museum, 296-0930, and the Steamboat Era Museum, 438-6888.

Lee Lecture

Dr. Edward G. Lengel will deliver the 2026 Lee Lecture, “The Road Home: Light-Horse Harry Lee’s Return from the Revolutionary War,” at 2 p.m. January 18 at Stratford Hall Historic Preserve, 483 Great House Road, Stratford.

The lecture will be held in the Stratford Hall Council House. Admission is $10 with a $5 discount for Friends of Stratford members. A virtual admission option is available. Advance tickets may be purchased at stratfordhall.org. Pre-registration is encouraged, but not required.

NNO concert

The Northern Neck Orchestra will present Appalachian Spring at 2 p.m. January 18 at the Lancaster Elementary School Theater, 191 School Street, Kilmarnock. The concert will showcase works by American Amy Beach, Samuel Barber, Aaron Copland and Florence Price.

Admission is by season subscription or $40, students will be admitted free by online reservation. Purchase advance tickets at northernneckorchestra.org.   

Book talk

The Reedville Fishermen’s Museum will host a book talk and signing at 6:30 p.m. February 2 at the Fairfields Volunteer Fire Department, 119 Main Street, Reedville.

Participants will include Tom Briggs, author of War on the Inland Sea, and author Susan Swift and illustrator Heather Cockrell of  The ABCs of Oystering on the Chesapeake Bay.
