Win a quilt

The American Legion Adams Post 86 Ladies Auxiliary is conducting a raffle of a hand-embroidered king/queen size quilt. Tickets are $1 each or six for $5.

Tickets may be purchased from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. June 5, 6, 26 and 27 in front of Tri-Star Supermarket, 81 Irvington Road, Kilmarnock, or from any auxiliary member. A drawing will be held on September 16.

History talk

The Mathews Museum, the Mathews Historical Society and the Mathews VA250 Committee will welcome speaker Philip Page at 7 p.m. Friday, June 6, at the Mathews Museum, 200 Main Street, Mathews.

Page, a descendant of the Mann Page family of Rosewell, will present “The Pages of Rosewell.” There is no cost for this presentation and reservations are not required.

Music on the Half Shell Stage

Music on the Half Shell Stage will continue at 7 p.m. Friday, June 6, with Good Shot Judy. Gates open 6 p.m. at Town Centre Park, 150 North Main Street, Kilmarnock.

Mystery/comedy

The Lancaster Players will present “What Is ‘Murder’?” at The Lancaster Playhouse, 361 Chesapeake Drive, White Stone, at 8 p.m. June 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21; and 3 p.m. June 8, 15 and 22. The Playhouse will open one hour prior to curtain.

Afternoon tea

The Lancaster Virginia Historical Society (LVHS) will host a special “Afternoon at Verville” at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 7, at the home of Ammon G. Dunton, Jr. near Merry Point.

Tickets are $70 for LVHS members and $100 for others. Tickets must be purchased in advance. To secure a reservation, call 462-7280.

Bluegrass

Old fashion bluegrass and classic country music will be featured at 7 p.m. Saturday, June 7, at the Urbanna Firehouse, 335 Virginia Street, Urbanna. Donations are appreciated for the Middlesex Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary.

Virginia Resolved

Stratford Hall, 483 Great House Road, Stratford, recently announced plans for Virginia Resolved: A Commemoration of Independence, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, June 7.

Tickets are $15 for ages 14 and older, $10 for ages 6-13, and free for ages 5 and younger, as well as Friends of Stratford members, Blue Star Museum participants and Museums for All patrons. Purchase tickets at stratfordhall.org.

Woman’s club

The Woman’s Club of Northumberland County will hold a luncheon meeting at noon, Tuesday, June 10, at the WCNC Clubhouse, 2928 Northumberland Highway, Lottsburg.

Bring a dish to share. Husbands are welcome. The club will discuss and elect new board members.

Honoring Washington

George Washington Birthplace National Monument will host “Washington’s Call to Command” June 14 and 15, commemorating the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army and honoring George Washington as the Army’s first Commander in Chief.

On June 15, “Washington as a Military Commander,” will be presented in the visitor center auditorium at 2 p.m. Throughout the weekend there will be demonstrations and kid-friendly activities.

Woodworkers’ raffle

The Tavern Woodworkers Guild at Rice’s Hotel/Hughlett’s Tavern (RHHT), 73 Monument Place, Heathsville, is holding a raffle with prizes including a kitchen knife holder, a pizza peel and cutter, an ice cream scoop and a bottle opener made by guild members.

Tickets are $10 each or three for $20, and will be available at the Heathsville Farmers Market June 21 and July 19, or the Heritage Arts Center Gift Shoppe at RHHT.

Rotary meetings

The Northern Neck Rotary Club meets at 7:30 a.m. on second and fourth Wednesdays at River Counties Community Foundation, 834 Rappahannock Drive, White Stone. Those interested in the speaker topics or Rotary are welcome.
