Woman’s club

open house

The Woman’s Club of White Stone is now accepting applications for new members for the 2019-2020 season. An open house with a buffet luncheon will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 4, at the WCWS Clubhouse, 560 Chesapeake Drive, White Stone.

Those interested in joining the club are urged to call Donna Davis, 456-6430, to receive a membership application. The yearly dues are $35.

Music on the

Half Shell Stage

Upcoming Music on the Half Shell Stage concerts include September 5, The Fabulous Hubcaps; September 7, Stuck on a Name; September 19, Danny Kensey and Cedar Creek; and October 6, The Original Rhondels. All four concerts begin at 6 p.m. at Town Centre Park, 150 North Main Street, Kilmarnock.

Admission is $10. Tickets are available at https://kilmarnockva.ticketleap.com/. Children younger than age 5 are admitted free with a season pass holder. Admission is also payable at the gate.

Author luncheon

The Friends of the Rappahannock Community College Library Center will host an author luncheon and book signing at 11:30 a.m. September 12 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1717 Hampton Hall Road, Callao. The speaker will be Feather Schwartz Foster, author of Mary Lincoln’s Flannel Pajamas and Other Stories from the First Ladies’ Closet.

Crab feast

The Morattico Waterfront Museum, 6584 Morattico Road, Morattico, will hold its eighth annual crab feast September 7. The James A. Vick Pavilion will open at 3:30 p.m. Serving will be from 4-6 p.m. Music will be provided by the Midnight Coal Company.

Admission is $35 for adults, $10 for 6-12 and free for ages five and younger. Tickets may be purchased by contacting Connie Conley at 761-6213 or emailing [email protected]. The cutoff date for ticket purchase is Monday, September 2.

RCA tickets

The Rappahannock Concert Association’s 2019-20 series will include October 12, The Tidewater Trio; November 9, The Quebe Sisters; March 21, The Drifters; April 25, John Bullard and Friends; and May 16, Nashville Legacy. Concerts will be held Saturday nights at the Performing Arts Theater, Northumberland County School Complex, 201 Academic Lane, Heathsville.

History tour

The Lancaster Virginia Historical Society (LVHS) will host a “History and Heritage Tour of Northampton County” on September 12. The tour will depart Kilmarnock at 7 a.m. and return about 8 p.m.

The fee is $125 for the public, or $110 for LVHS members and includes all admission fees, expert guides and commentary, box lunch, wine tasting, morning and evening snacks, charter bus transportation and driver gratuity. On Stage

The Rappahannock Foundation for the Arts recently announced its 2019-20 On Stage season. Subscriptions are $165. Call the box office, 438-5555.

Concerts will include The Steep Canyon Rangers on September 22; The Philadelphia String Quartet, November 23; The Barefoot Movement, December 21; Leahy, March 14; and Fact 2 Face, April 18. All concerts take place at the Lancaster Middle School Theater, 191 School Street, Kilmarnock.

Boots & BBQ

Tickets are on sale for the annual Northern Neck Land Conservancy’s annual Boots & BBQ celebration September 28 at Ditchley, 1571 Ditchley Road, Kilmarnock.

The event will feature music, barbecue and fried oysters. Tickets are $50 per person. For tickets, call 462-0979.

History program

The United Daughters of the Confederacy will host “A Visit to Old Appomattox with County Clerk George Peers” at 6:30 p.m. September 10 in the Bayne Center, Historic Christ Church, 420 Christ Church Road, Weems. The speaker will be National Park historian Patrick Schroeder.

The Boxers

The Boxers, A Simon and Garfunkel Tribute, by Todd and Gregg Pitts will perform at 3 p.m. September 15 at the Harry M. Ward Auditorium, Mathews High School, 9889 Buckley Hall Road, Mathews.

Conservancy

    celebration

The Historic Virginia Land Conservancy will hold its 2019 Conservancy Celebration from 2-4:30 p.m. October 6 at Chelsea Plantation in West Point. Tickets are $75. Purchase tickets at www.HistoricVirginiaLandConservancy.org or 757-565-0343.

The event will include music, plantation home tours, a silent auction, fish casting clinic, Brunswick stew and ham biscuits. Beer and wine will be available for purchase. Must be 21 years or older.

Piano lounge

David Graham, or Ken Sparks, will be featured on the piano from 6-9 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays at the Hope and Glory Inn, 65 Tavern Road, Irvington.
