V. Randolph Chowning Jr.

LANCASTER—V. Randolph Chowning Jr. passed away on February 2, 2021.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Bane Chowning; and his sisters, Gene Chesson and Mary Chilton Senell.

He is survived by his sons, William and Thomas Chowning; daughter, Alice Ann Weidner; and grandsons, Jeffrey and Jay Bornemann.

Randy was born on February 28, 1924, and was raised on a farm in Lancaster. He was the son of the late Vivian and Alice Chilton Chowning.

He attended Christchurch School. At the age of 19, he entered the Air Force and served in World War II as head flight engineer and turret gunner on a B-17 bomber, flying 35 missions.

After returning home from the war, he resumed school and graduated from the University of Virginia with a degree in business administration. He sold investments and later worked in manufacturer sales and mostly enjoyed the friendship and client relationships he formed.

He spent his life caring for others and devoting himself to family and was a true servant to Christ. He will be missed by many and loved always.

He will be laid to rest at St. Mary’s Whitechapel Episcopal Church in Lancaster, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution may be made to the Richmond SPCA at richmondspca.org.
