Valdrighi blasts grand slam and Davis knocks two over the fence; Lady Devils sink Drifters, 15-11

Rachel Valdrighi hit a grand slam and Maddie Davis put two over the fence at Colonial Beach last Tuesday as Lancaster came off a pair of district shutouts to pick up its first Northern Neck win, 15-11, over the Lady Drifters in varsity softball.

Valdrighi went 4-for-5 with her first varsity home run, two doubles and a single for five RBIs and three runs scored to lead the LHS offense. Davis was 2-for-4, both home runs, for four RBIs and two runs scored and Katherine Davis was 2-for-5 with a double and single for three RBIs and two runs.

Lancaster took an early lead then blew the game open in the fourth with a seven-run rally including Valdrighi’s grand slam and Davis’ two-run homer.

But host CB wouldn’t give up, scoring four runs in the bottom of the seventh before LHS first baseman Riley Molineaux turned an unassisted double play to end the game.

Whitney Barrack went the distance on the mound for the win.

Washington & Lee 5

Lancaster 4 (8 innings)

Washington & Lee scored a walk-off single in the bottom of the eighth to edge Lancaster, 5-4, in an extra-inning outing in Montross last Thursday.

Ashley Sanford pitched all eight innings for the Lady Devils.

Davis led the offense, going 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs and McKenzie Hathaway had two RBIs.

Northampton 12

Lancaster 8

Northampton came from behind to beat Lancaster, 12-8, at home on the Eastern Shore last Saturday.

The Lady Devils had held a 5-0 lead after two innings before allowing the Lady Yellow Jackets to capitalize on several errors and walks.

Valdrighi led Lancaster at the plate, batting 2-for-4 with a double and triple for an RBI and run scored. Molineaux also went 2-for-4 with two singles for two RBIs and two runs scored. Madison Gives was 2-for-3 with a run.

The Lady Devils will travel to Essex Tuesday, May 1, and will host Colonial Beach Thursday, May 3.
