WHITE STONE—Route 3 travelers crossing the Robert O. Norris Jr. Memorial Bridge on Monday evening experienced brief delays due to emergency bridge work resulting from a citizen notification.
Crews began removing an existing strip of steel edge forming under the bridge for the safety of watercraft below the bridge, reported Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) Fredericksburg District senior communications specialist Alexis Breeden.
Norris Bridge is currently safe for travel, said Breeden. The removal of the steel edge forming does not affect the structural capacity of Norris Bridge. This work is to ensure the continued safety of marine watercraft on the Rappahannock River. The Norris Bridge connects Middlesex and Lancaster counties.
