High school athletic fields and courts across the Commonwealth will be dormant this fall.
The Virginia High School League (VHSL) executive committee voted 34-1 during a special session Monday, July 27, to delay the start of all sports and activities until December 14. The committee had three models to consider in reopening sports for the 2020-21 school year and adopted Model 3 with a condensed interscholastic plan.
VHSL executive director Dr. John W. “Billy” Haun said in a press conference following Monday’s meeting, despite the committee’s vote “the dates you see right now, may not be the ones etched in stone. There may be some changes as we move forward.”
Haun elaborated by saying “if certain parts of the state move back to Phase 2 or beyond Phase 3, we’ll have to come back to the executive committee and look and see what the implications are.”
