Is giving a pet as a gift a good idea?
With the holidays in full gear, gift giving is on the minds of many.
How about giving someone close to you a pet? Is this a good idea?
Probably not. Bringing a pet into a home is not like buying a toy. A pet is not something to play with and set aside; pets are family members and can be up to an 18-year commitment. They need to be fed, exercised, trained, and treated for fleas, ticks, and heart worm prevention.
If you think a friend may want a pet, ask them; please do not give them a pet as a surprise. If they do want a pet, let them be a part of selecting….
